Hey all,
So I've been using my new Macbook for a few weeks now. I must say, I'm impressed with the hardware and the OS. Definitely don't regret making the switch from Windows.
There is one issue that I have been having. The availability of only 2 USB ports has made using my peripherals difficult.
I am in the process of looking for a USB hub so that I can work more efficiently. I did some research and was able to find limited information. From what I know, the only thing I should be aware of is whether the hub draws its power from the port or powers itself.
Do you guys have any recommendations? Are these newer Macbooks about to power the port without any problems.
I'm looking to use an external HD (has its own power supply), wireless mice, iPods, and Blackberry. These aren't too power intensive.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks!

Depends on how mant USB ports you want. Generally, a hub with 3-5 ports will be powered from only the USB port on your laptop; anything more, and it usually has its own power cord. Your peripherals should work fine in a USB hub.

some devices require a powered hub... USB is pretty low power and if it has to split it between multiple ports.. its even lower... I only use USB hubs at home when sitting at my desk, so I find it easier to just use a powered one and no issues.

If I'm not mistaken, get an USB hub that isn't powered by the bus but self-powered with an AC adapter.

. I have a powered USB hub for when I'm at home at my desk, as it can just draw power from the wall and not my MB. For when I'm on the go, I use a 4-port hub that draws power from the one USB hub itself. I have to say, the AC one is a great hub, and it has 7 ports to spare.
No worries of using too much power.
The non-AC hub doesn't do too bad at all, just have to limit how many BIG power users you plug into it. It works fine with my mouse, printer, 2.5inch external drive, and a Bluetooth dongle.
Here are the hubs that I currently have:

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll definitely look into it.
Don't want something too bulky and I want something that is pleasant to look at.
Thanks again! -
If you are not travailing get a AC powered one. If you travel maybe get a 4 port one too.
I have 2 7 port Belkin hubs AC powered.

The two top ports are great for when you need to stick in a usb drive. and they stack too.
