    Your iPod Is Not Bricked

Help, I have the spinning circle of doom! Is my iPod bricked?
No, it's not. To get out of the spinning circle of doom simply delete the last thing you installed via SSH. If you can't use SSH, check the Applications section below for alternatives. Also try using a backup of your N45AP.plist

HELP!!! IT WON'T DO ANYTHING!!! I'M BRICKED!!!

No. You're not bricked. The only way that you would be bricked is that you ultimately failed in doing the Dual Boot, you entered a "death command" in Terminal, or you managed to screw up the bootloader. All of which are not easy to do unless you're trying to. The common user will never brick their iPod touch. A restore will fix any problem you have that has been related to jailbreak. If the issue is not fix, restore and take it to an Apple Store. It's their defect, not yours.

Okay great, how do I force restore?
See a113524c's and Zombie_Killer's guide here . Note that a force restore will wipe everything on your iPod, and should only be used as a last resort. http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2790

all credits to good old spoony!

    please rep if i helped

EDIT: if you have any other problems, dont stress to PM me. i am very knowledgeable about ipod touches/iphones as i am quite the jailbreaker myself (applied badge green in 11 minutes!! :) )

EDIT2: compiled a bit on "tips and tricks for the ipod touch/iphone. they will help batt life and improve overall use!

    5439

    1. If you're scrolling through a long document/page in Safari - if you tap the bar at the top of your screen containing the time and battery, Safari will automatically scroll up to the top of the document/page and the show address bar.

    2. Turn off WiFi and SSH (using Services from Installer) to save battery power when not in use.

    3. Double clicking the home button in any application, or with the screen off will bring up the music controls.

    4. Make sure to completely close apps when you are done with them to save battery power. This is accomplished by pressing and holding the home button for approximately five seconds. This boosts battery life big time if you run lots of different apps all the time.

    5. Holding down letters on the keyboard will pop up the accents/symbols associated with those letters. Once it pops up, slide your finger over to the accent/symbol you like.

    6. Whilst in Mail's inbox view, sliding your finger from left to right on a message the 'delete' button will appear. This also applies in the list view of the Videos application.

    7. In Safari double tap to zoom in. You can also "pinch" (putting your thumb and index finger on the screen and pinching in and out) to zoom in Safari and in Pictures.

    8. You can charge your iPod Touch from any powered USB port. Such as a computer, printer, media centre. The device does not have to have iTunes installed to provide power to your iPod Touch.

    9. Need a spare cleaning cloth for your touch, or an extra cloth to rest your iPod touch on while at work or school? Just go to your local vision care store (or pharmacy) and get an eyeglass/sunglass "cleaning cloth". Cheap and works great!

    10. When watching a video, tap to bring up the onscreen controls. When you are done watching a video make sure you press done so your progress will be saved.

    11. If you want to set a picture as a permanent background (and not only in the "wake" screen) Set the picture as a background in settings or directly from the picture gallery then off the theme wallpaper in the SummerBoard settings.

    12. When typing a lot of text in Safari turn it to horizontal view. The keyboard will be bigger and you can get a better grip of the Touch while typing with two thumbs.

    13. When typing if you want to add something from the numbers keyboard just hold down the numbers and slide your finger to the number or symbol you want, and release. It will take you back to your letters keyboard. This way you dont have to tap numbers, tap your number, then tap numbers again to go back. This also applies for using the 'shift' key to apply capital letters.

    14. When in Safari, if you are presented with a link, hold your finger over the link, and a bubble will appear showing the URL that the link is tied to.

    15. In Safari since you can't open links in a new windows, you can open a new page, tap the bookmarks icon, tap the history folder and direct yourself to the last page you were just on and tap the link from there.

    16. When listening to an audiobook, iTunes and your iPod create a new chapter list unrelated to the subject of the book. It's accessible using the same control used for viewing audio tracks (upper right of screen).

    17. Make a spelling mistake? Press and hold the word you spelt wrong and a magnifying glass will appear. Slide your finger back and forwth to move the cursor.

    18. When you're on a website that has a frame or an ****** with scrollbars in it, use two fingers on that frame to scroll that window and back to a single finger to scroll the whole page.

    19. When typing, if you press the space bar twice after a word it will insert a period and another space.

    20. If you wish to use the horizontal keyboard to chat on AIM, MSN, Yahoo, GTalk, ICQ, etc. Using Safari go to the site www.meebo.com and use it there.
Through using your iPod Touch you invariably pick up little tricks to get things done quicker, or make life easier. Or maybe a cool unknown feature.

EDIT: ok, ive compiled a thing called GENERAL IPOD TOUCH/IPHONE Q and A

    5812

Here are some questions that have been answered many times about various things:
Many of these are asked so many times, by not so smart people, no offense.

Q: Is it OK to charge my iPod all the time? Won't it destroy the battery?
A: It's absolutely fine. Actually, it's good for it. Draining your battery completely damages it, thus shortening its life. Unlike NiCd's and NiMH's, you should charge it often and early. And if you are going to store your iPod for a long time without use, get it to about 80% charge and put it in your fridge. This preserves the battery. Actually, you should do this with all batteries. Just don't freeze it, that destroys it. Read on WikiPedia for more info about Li-Ion's.

Q: When I jailbreak, can I get WiFi anywhere? Like the iPhone?
A: No. WiFi has a range of usually a maximum of 1000 feet, with a special antenna. You must have a wireless router to use it. And besides, the iPhone can't get WiFi everywhere, only near an Access Point. Again: WikiPedia

Q: Is jailbreaking illegal? Does it void the warranty?
A: No, Apple just doesn't like it. However, putting the iPhone apps on it, along with ROMs is illegal. No, it does not void your warranty. (according to Chriswells1993) As long as you restore it before you return it for whatever reason you need to, your warranty will still be upheld.

Q: My iPod crashed! What do I do?
A: First, try holding down the home button for a few seconds. If nothing happens, force restart by holding down the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for a few seconds. If that fails, force restore. But not before restarting it. Remember, the iPod touch cannot be bricked.

Q: Is there Flash for the iPod touch?
A: No. Flash requires a fast CPU, faster than the 412Mhz the N45AP provides (on Windows). Maybe, if Apple figures out how to make flash extremely light and fast on a slow CPU, then maybe. And I know the Nokia tablet has a custom flash program written for it, and it alone, it is light, and made to work on a slower CPU. Maybe, just maybe, Apple will write flash for the iPod touch. But as of right now, there is no flash for the iPod.

    Q: What about Java?
A: See above. Although, it has been made run on mobile phones with really slow CPU's, but it is a very crippled version without all of the features as a PC. And no, Java is not the same as JavaScript.

Q: What if I mess up jailbreaking? Bricked my iPod?
A: Restore. Period. Do NOT send it back to Apple, they will know you jailbroke it and will not give you a replacement. And you didn't brick it.

    Q: Does it have Bluetooth?
A: No. And nobody will ever find it either, it's just not there. Suck it up and move on. Although it would be cool.

    Q: What about EDGE?
A: See above. It's not a cell phone.

Q: How can I jailbreak without a computer?
    A: Go to jailbreakme.com or slovix.com/touchfree

Q: Why aren't there movies on Mobile iTunes?
A: Because it would take forever to download it. Huge files, most of them are half a gig. And why would you want to anyways? It has YouTube!

If you ever encounter problems with your iPod, just force restore. And if that doesn't help after the third time of doing it, send it to me and I'll fix it for you. And if I say it's totally done for, then you can send it to Apple. Which won't happen.

If you have it jailbroken on firmware 1.1.4, which I shall assume you do you should add the iSpazio repo to the installer.app sources list. This is

    http://repo.ispazio.net

You will need to have Summerboard installed from installer.app and I recommend restarting the phone completely after summerboard finishes its install. (this only needs to be done the 1st time).

I use the Raindow Realize theme at the moment but you really really have to try one called Reveal. It is incredible.

The iPhone only comes alive once you allow the community talent to get its hands on it, something the Apple empire does seem to completely get unfortunately.

I recommend installing Wallpaper by Sean Heber from installer.app. It randomly cycles available wallpapers from what I believe is other iPhones out there (that what the last one did but not sure about the current one). When you see one you like just tap the sceen and select add to gallery or use as wallpaper. It couldn't be easier. I got some of the most amazing wallpaper for my iPhone this way and is all free and legal.
