I've heard that iTunes 7.5 improves Cover Flow performance. I hope so, it lags quite a lot on my 1 GB RAM MacBook.
And I demand you write "Flavour" in respect to the British, Canadians and Australians! -
LOL! "Flavour" huh? In the words of Ali G, "Respek!"
I heard that about Cover Flow too. That was probably one of the many things Apple meant with their ambiguous description, "includes bug fixes to improve..." blah blah blah. -
Thanks for the heads up!
Also, cover flow performs great on my current desktop, which is now four years old with no upgrades. -
Ahh very good. Downloading now!

Just updated to iTunes 7.5...Cover Flow does seem to "flow" faster...but it still eats up tons of RAM that I can't spare (not much to go around with 1 GB).
-
OK I don't notice any improvements with Cover Flow in iTunes. If anything it's worse. Memory usage is a bit ridiculous, check the difference between Cover Flow View and List View. Where is iTunes 7.5.1??? Hurry up Apple!!!

In coverflow, all artwork is loaded into the RAM for quick accessing. Did iTunes hit RAM this much in the previous versions? I never bothered to check.

I still have yet to find a big reason to use iTunes. I just don't like it that much. I thought adding in ogg support via the xiph QT plugin would help, but I still don't like it. This just adds to my dislike of iTunes.

I've got around 40Gb music and all the album art. Cover flow on my MBP only keeps up if I flip through very slowly, and on my ipod classic it is hopeless... even the album view in list view lags a little - now I know why!
So I need them to release an ipod classic with 4gb RAM -

I find that when just listening to music, eg not flipping through albums whilst in cover flow, it doesn't take up any more RAM than list view, around 150-175mb but if I scroll through all of it it peaks at about 250-300mb RAM usage. This is with 6 and a half gigs of music.
-
huh... with 10 gigs of music, my itunes uses ~134mb or so of "real" memory and 500 mb of "virtual" memory. When I am aggressively flipping through albums, I get up to about 400-500 of "real" mem and about 700 megs of "virtual" memory.
Coverflow has HUGELY improved in my case. It still does stutter some. Then again, out of the 150 or 200 album covers I have, probably 40 of them dont' have actual artwork. That may make little or no difference, I'm not sure. -

Well it's hardly scientific (the numbers change a fair bit in the time it takes to move the mouse and take the picture) but here's frantically flipping through cover flow before the update:
And after:
Same % CPU but the RAM usage does seem a little lower. -

I'm still waiting for iTunes 7.5.1 ... and OS X 10.5.1. And where is 10.4.11 for that matter?
