When you boot up to the install screen go to the menu bar and choose "Disk Utility". Select only the drive partition that has the Mac OS on it and choose the erase tab. Your Windows partition will not be harmed. Erase the Mac OS, then leave Disk Utility and proceed with the installation of SL.

Just wanted to clarify something; To the OP, did you force boot from CD? Because SL doesn't by default offer a clean install option, not even to 10.5 users. But there is an easy way to do it. You have to restart with the disk in and hold "c" down, and then follow HLdan's steps above. Is that what you did?

yes i did. i pressed the button "restore from time machine backup" and now i can access disk utility.

are you positive i can get a copy of snow leopard on here once i erase my mac hd? again, i am using the 9.99 cd and i was told it is no different than the 29 verison

if you can't post replies which can help, the keep your jokes to yourself.

To OP: this is the same disk at the full retail disk...you should be able to format only the os x partition...try to restart you computer and see what happens....if you still get a problem, the i would suggest you to wipe out the whole hard drive...

Yes I am. It's been done hundreds of times before. There are even numerous step and step video tutorials on Youtube if you'd like. Unless you're using a PPC-based unit (?).

ive watched all of them on youtube and mine isnt working like everyone elses and im not sure why?

im on an intel macbook pro, late 2007 model.

i boot up with the snow leopard cd in the drive by holding "C" and then i get that error screen. everything is greyed out and i cant access disk utility. however, i can when i press "restore from backup"

i just want to make sure if i wipe my drive using "restore from backup" i wont get that error message when i boot up and i can install a clean copy of snow leopard.

    thanks for the kind replies!

Firstly, that's not an error message. The message clearly states (and I'm sure you've read it) that it requires you to have 10.5 or later installed, you have 10.4. The $9.99 DVD only works to upgrade an existing 10.5 installation. If you have 10.5 installed, you can in fact use Disk Utility to do a full erase and install but you can't do that unless 10.5 is installed. The $29 SL DVD will allow you to install with 10.4. You can't ignore the message box.
Also, would you care to explain how you qualified for the $9.99 up to date SL DVD when you have an older MBP? Only the latest June 2009 models qualify for this.

i just realized this. i saw it on the dvd that says "upgrade" while the others say "install" dvd.

my sister just got a macbook over the summer and i ordered the sl upgrade for her because she doesnt want it. thats how i got the cd.

but thank you! and i realized my stupidity now between the two disks. lol :p
i was just confused because others said yes the 9.99 works no problem
