Hey fellow Mac Heads of NBR,

Does anyone here own these cables ( http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...10246&cs_id=1024603&p_id=5995&seq=1&format=2), or a different brand? If so, would you care to share what you think about them and if it's better than using the MDP to DVI converter?

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on these but it seems that this is a new product and there aren't that many reviews yet so I'm still a bit hesitant.

    What are your thoughts? :)

    Edit:

Or if anyone owns the adapter ( http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10428&cs_id=1042802&p_id=5311&seq=1&format=2) .

Also, I'm seeing that you can't get audio through the adapter for the MBP. If that is the case, would I be able to get audio if I went through the MDP -> DVI ->HDMI route?

The adaptor cable linked should be fine.

DVI and hdmi video carry the same video signal, neither is better in that respect. Hdmi is smaller and easier to plug in. Your selection should be based entirely on the capability of the device you are connecting to.

You can't get sound out of the minidisplayport at all. There are some companies that male solutions involving your headphone Jack for about ~$100.

For side info, trying to throw dvi in between the minidp and hdmi would be a step in the wrong direction. Minidp (not apple laptops, though) and hdmi support audio, dvi does not. So if you connect a device with dvi or convert to dvi anywhere along the way, you will lose the audio.

I'd go with the cable, the less connections the better. If you want audio go for a optical cable since all Mac's have optical out.

I have this one as well...works fine and is cheap but no audio :( I was using a standard mini-jack to RCA stereo cable to hook up to my audio receiver.

I upgraded to the mini-display port-to-HDMI plus USB audio cable and it too works just fine as well with only one cable to my HDTV for audio + video. The main "con" of this cable is that it is stereo audio only (no digital surround sound) but that doesn't bother me much as I only have 2.1 audio setups on my two main TVs right now.

For a little more money, you can get the following cable with further upgrades to include an optical audio connection so you can get full digital surround sound on the HDMI output too. These cables finally came into stock at monoprice for the first time only just a few days ago, else I probably would have gotten this one for the added flexibility ;)
