saw this today at http://www.microsoft.com/Presspass/press/2008/may08/05-13MacBU2008PR.mspx , and I dont recall reading anything about it here, so I thought I'd post it. the part I am most interested in is:

"The Mac BU also announced it is bringing VBA-language support back to the next version of Office for Mac. Sharing information with customers as early as possible continues to be a priority for the Mac BU to allow customers to plan for their software needs.2 Although the Mac BU increased support in Office 2008 with alternate scripting tools such as Automator and AppleScript — and also worked with MacTech Magazine to create a reference guide, available at http://www.mactech.com/vba-transition-guide — the team recognizes that VBA-language support is important to a select group of customers who rely on sharing macros across platforms. The Mac BU is always working to meet customers’ needs and already is hard at work on the next version of Office for Mac."

as someone who tries to develop cross-platform code (hobby, not professionally), I was happy to read this!

They almost had to, removing that functionality caused a lot of missed sales. The other improvement to increase sale would be to fix Entourage.. Those were the largest two complaints on release of 2008.. and for 550+ tax's... It's not to much to ask for.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't expect the next version of Office until say 2010, so it'll be tough for those reliant on it until then. For me, I don't really need the power of Office (pretty light user if you ask me), so I'm fine with iWork or Office. I prefer Word over Pages, Keynote and PowerPoint 07/08 are on par for me, Numbers I find easier to use but Excel is obviously more powerful.

Well microsoft wouldn't want the business world to shift to the Mac OS. That's there largest business, but they still like to make profit on small markets just the same.

I never use VBA on word or anything like that, so office 2008 is fine with me. Well, different people have different demand.
For me, I am using office 2004 for mac and I do not use it that much. Most of time I am using latex, which is perfect for editing formulas.
