After Fusion installs WIn XP Pro SP2 will not complete its installation. A fatal error occurs that prevents WIn XP from continuing the setup. I get the following message:

    Error

Installation Failed: D:\I386\asms Error Message:Incorrect Function.
    Fatal Error:
One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be
    installed.
    Incorrect Function

    Does anyone have an opinion?

My opinion is that it's easier to install Windows XP Pro through Boot Camp first, then install Fusion. And no, that does not mean you have to install Windows twice.

I think that's what I will do because I have done everything by the book and I still can't get it to work. Thanks

No problem. Apple provides a very nice Installation & Setup Guide [PDF] for Boot Camp Beta. If you follow their instructions you shouldn't run into any problems installing Windows. There is also a Boot Camp Requirements & Frequently Asked Questions article that may be helpful too. Once you get Windows installed it should be a snap to get Fusion up and running, Good luck!

Edit: I forgot to offer any help whatsoever with installing Fusion, errrr! Actually, Sam wrote a really great Sticky: Running Windows on a Mac: Boot Camp, Parallels & VMware Fusion with everything else you'd need for that.
