Hopefully Fusion 3 will game better![]()

Wow!!It seems pretty impressive!!We're going to experiece aero on a vm...It seems like left4dead can be run, but the question remains: Is it playable? we'll know it in a few weeks...
-
I've been beta testing Fusion 3 for several months, and currently using the last beta, which is basically the release version.. mostly... and it does run VERY nicely, it is a big improvement over version 2. The graphics are much better, with some games and other things working that wouldn't work in two. All that said, its still a virtual machine, so its not the same speed as natively ran things.
-
ermm how can we get the beta version? what can you say about aero performance on vmware3? also does the machine lag??sometimes using vmware2, the round circling pointer beside the cursor would flicker. Does this happen with vmware3?
-
I've never tried Aero, since i run everything in Unity, I disable all effects and themes and stuff to make Vista as basic as possible.... I don't really want to see Windows.
I don't know what flickering your talking about, and don't notice any with what I do...
I don't think you can get in beta, at least now... but if you search around on VMwares website, they have a place where customers can sign up to be part of preview release testing, which is basically betas. I never actually signed up for it though, VMware just sent me an email asking me to participate. -
Here is the important question. How well does it run in Snow Leopard? Fusion 2 is just unusable for me after upgrading.
-
I never tried 2 in Snow Leopard, since I had 3 betas well before Snow Leopard was out... but 3 has been running great, no issues whatsoever...
-
There was a update Oct.1st that was suppose to fix some Snow Leopard problems.
-
can you tell me which version is the latest beta?
-
i have tried it...it's still slow...i still feeling i'm using a virtual machine....aero performance is quite good, but only after i have played with the settings a bit...looks promising...i just hope we get near to native speeds in the near future...

the beta used to say e.x.p. but now it just lists version as 3.0.0
-
It was released today. If anyone gets it post your thoughts. Not sure if I will get it or not.
-
is there a demo version?
-
I'm going to give the demo a try
-
I can't use the demo, it's detecting my old serial and want's me to upgrade. :| so stupid.
-
What explicitly is different from ver 2? 2 seems quick enough, so have they made any other improvements?
-
Would 32bit or 64bit windows run better under VMware3 vm?
-
i believe 32 bit would run better because they would take less resource as vmware is a virtual machine and limited resources are allocated to it. but then, that's just my personal opinion. hope this helps.
-
the most obvious difference is that it now supports windows aero and if you disable it, the virtual machine actually runs faster.
-
Supports up to 4 processors. Switching between full screen and single window seems faster also. I like the new bar across the top of the screen in full screen mode (aside from using the keyboard shutcuts, you can hit the minimize button).

I'm running VMWare Fusion 3 with Windows 7 Professional 64bit, downloading TF2 right now. Will let you guys know how well it works as soon as it's done. =D
Then I'll try Left 4 Dead. -

dont expect miracles- you are still running this inside a virtual machine.
-
Haha, I'm only gonna do what they advertised. =P
Shoot, it better be playable! -
I doubt it. They said you could game on VMware Fusion 2, and I could hardly play a 2d game ( www.soldat.pl)
-
In Windows 7 new install, VM Fusion 3, I get the following performance score
CPU 5.6
RAM 4.5
Graphics 2.9
Gaming Graphics 3.4
HDD 5.9 -
So I tried TF2 last night, it was playable, but there was definitely some graphical lag. I couldn't enjoy the game, not to mention it looked like crap.
I'm installing FFXI right now, I think it's less graphically intensive. I can live with just chatting and some minor partying. I'll let you guys know how that runs.
Later I'll try to run CounterStrike: Source and Left 4 Dead and let you guys know how that runs. =X -

lol...
not meant to be done beyond the fact that it "works".
just boot into bootcamp for games, or try crossover if you are persistent and want to play in os x. -
L4D is more graphically intense then TF:2 so it will be unplayable.
-
what gpu were you using? also which version of windows were you using? 32 bit or 64 bit?
-
It's a 13" macbook pro, so 9400m graphics and 32 bit version of Win 7 Pro.
-
Yeah, I gave up on VMware. Utterly unplayable. =(
