I'm going to be getting a new phone soon, and I'm trying to figure out what, exactly, I should get. Switching to a different carrier isn't really an option right now, so I'm stuck with verizon. Ideally, I would like my phone to have the following characteristics:
    (1) Small (i.e. not a "smartphone") with long battery life
    (2) Can sync with address book and calendar via iSync

I know that Apple has a list of officially supported phones for iSync on their page--but unfortunately verizon apparently offers none of those. So, I'm asking you for recommendations in the hope that maybe some of you actually have a working sync setup between a mac and a verizon phone.

    I would appreciate any tips.

Isn't Verizon known for disabling a lot of these kinds of features?

EDIT: It looks like some people make iSync plug-ins, etc. for some Verizon phones, etc.:

So you might want to pick out what model interests you, and then perhaps search for any iSync plugins that would add support.

You shouldn't have a problem syncing your address book and calendar. Normally Verizon disables other features on their phones when transfering over bluetooth, however, those are supposed to be allowed functions.

As Kelch said, visit howard forums for more info. I hacked my Moto E815 and it works pretty well (I can tran video and music). Be warned that it's not that easy to do, and it will void the warranty on your phone.

does Verizon use SIM cards and GSM phones?? maybe not, I think that is just T-Mobile and Cingular.

what I do whenever I need to get a new phone (I just got a new RIZR Z3 Black :D available from no carriers at all in the U.S. isn't even on Motorola's site actually, from a place called myworldphone.com) is buy an unlocked phone, not tied to any carrier.

with my most recent one, the Motorola, I just called up Cingular, had them ship me a SIM card for $6, got my phone, and set up a contract free pay as you go (pick your plan option). this is the best way I have found to have a cell phone and not have to deal with 2 year contracts, which I have before and are not very good options for people that don't use all of their minutes each month.

No, Verizon uses CDMA phones, which don't use SIM cards. Sprint does this as well.

The only phone Verizon has that does use SIM cards is the new Blackberry 8830, which works on CDMA in Verizon's network, but can use GSM as well with a SIM card when traveling abroad, etc.

Thanks for the help, guys. It looks like a motorola phone and a plugin of some sort should get the job done.
