Since the MBP only has a GeForce 8600M graphics card, how do you capture video on to it? Can you only use firewire?
Also I heard that iMovie 08 is a POS. Apparently the previous version is much better. Is there a way to get the older version or are you stuck with 08?

You could unistall it. But it may be glitchy. If you can get 06 thats cool but its gonna be hard to find. Any mac is good for video editing. A girl i know was using final cut pro 6 i think on her powerbook g4.
Now how do you capture video on the mac book pro or how do you transfer it? To transfer you would need a firewire 400 or 800 cable going from your camera to your macbook pro. To capture it you could use the isight camera which is really nice btw. -

iMovie 6 is very easy to find and is available for free from Apple. It installs beside iMovie '08 so there is no need to uninstall anything. -
ohhh i thought it might cause problems if you install both versions. My bad still learning.

iM ovie 08 is fantastic for what it was designed for, which is definitely not a re plac eme nt for pro level app s like final cut pr o.
the video card that the MBP has, has nothing to do with how yo u captu re video.
most cam eras now a days use a fi rewir e connection s, a 4 p in connector. the firewire 400 port on Mac hardware i s a firewire 6 pin connec tor, and that is what is normally used for video captur e from a camera .
these are excellent machi nes for video editing, don't listen to what you H EAR, jus t see for your self. -

Sweet! Thanks guys. The fact that I can download and install the previous version of iMovie alongside 08 AND do it for free is absolutely amazing. I knew there was a reason everyone loves Apple so much
As for capturing video from a camera with the MBP, I was afraid there would only be a firewire optionI have an old Super 8 camera that doesn't have firewire, only composite outputs (video and two audio). I needed a capture/video card on my PC that had the right inputs and was hoping the MBP would have the same thing. I guess it's time I upgraded my camera anyway...
Is there a way to convert between 4-pin firewire and 6-pin firewire and vice versa? -
yes, you can get a 4-pin to 6-pin firewire cable at basically any computer store, electronic or otherwise.
with many cameras moving to tapeless standards, there are many different formats popping up, but the common thread is usually a simple firewire connection. -

Guys, please try to refrain from the guerrilla advertising. If you want to spread your movement, add it to your sig, but don't take threads off topic.

haha, sorry, I read a wired article and I couldn't resist, that is basically a completely dead site, but in a way it was also an answer to the question.
i could care less about that specific site, "movement", etc. more just a test of awareness.
