    Hi all.

Well I was browsing through the Dell site, they have gone pretty cheap.. Anyway was looking at the 17" one.. It can get a 200GB 7200RPM drive, didn't know that =\

Anyway, was wondering which video card is better? The macbook PRO's 256MB version, or the 512MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7950 GTX

Here are the specs for the Dell... oh btw I'm not going to get this, just makes me hmmm jealous?

    Code:
    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T7200
    Genuine Windows(R) XP Professional (English)
    2GB (2 X 1024MB) 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
    512MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7950 GTX
200GB SATA 7200RPM High Performance Hard Drive

That's like the main stuff of it, all that for like 3690 AUD which IMO is too much for me to pay, but yeah was just wondering which would be better?

with that high-class of a video card i can't expect the battery time to be good on it, otherwise the 7950gtx is better than the 8600m gt, but lacks D3D10 in Windows stuff.

Better how? For gaming? The Dell... Let me tell you though, the 7950GTX is a beast and runs hotter than you know what. It's loud, plastic and fairly obnoxious but it will best the MBP in gaming. I went from that Dell to the 17" SR MBP. Guess which I like better? :D

Ahh ok, Didn't know its plastic. OK MBP IT IS!

    Thanks...

The Dell uses a plastic composite exterior. It's wrapped around a magnesium alloy chassis though, and is one of the sturdiest laptops I've used.

The 7950GTX is the strongest laptop graphics that you can currently get. It lacks DX10 support, but that's only available on Windows anyway, so it's not a big deal. The weaker power of the 8600M will mean that any DX10 features will be lost anyway because you'll have to run lower settings, so the 7950GTX will still look better. I'm not trying to convince you to get the Dell, I'm just saying, don't base your opinion on everything you hear here. This thread is probably better suited for the Gaming and Graphics cards section anyway.

it's still going to be a few years until dx10 is even that prominent in gaming, and as for benchmarks, in 3dmark06 the 7950gtx gets 5214 and the 8600m gt gets 3323.

me too I have both the m1710 with the 7950 card and just got the mbp also have the m1210. My pick is mbp. Although the 1710 is awsome for gaming and I did not find it to run that hot at all. Battery life was 3hrs at best and on a side note the speakers sound great.....but I am not a gamer so I will most likely be selling mine and keeping my mbp...and my M1210 for traveling...good pick for the serious gamer....try to get xp on it if you still can. The dell feels at LOT more sturdy than the mbp. In my opinion.
