I downloaded a stupid application (album art thingy) not realising it didn't do anything unless I bought it. Now I want to delete it but can't as finder says it can't be moved to trash because it is open. A reboot didn't solve the problem. How do I close it? (it isn't showing in my dock)

Just a suggestion, try to drag it to the dock, if its running should have arrow under it, as I am new to MAC OSX I believe if you click on it the finder changes to the app, and you should get some option to close it.

    ok try this:

In /Applications/Utilities/ is a new utility called Activity Monitor, fire it up and see if that process is in the list there

if its in there then click on quit process to kill it

Did you try the recommendation from the Album Art Thingy Website?

If that still does not work try a Force Quit: Apple Menu --> Force Quit (Keyboard Shortcut is Open-Apple + Option + ESC).

Or, maybe Album Art Thingy is being started at Login, in that case, Go to System Preferences --> Accounts, then Select your account if necessary, Click Login Items. If Album Art Thingy is there, Select it and Click the - symbol. Then Restart and try to Delete Album Art Thingy.

Also, check out iStat. It lets you see the top resource hogging apps you are running, as well as many other useful things.

Can't close apps through it... but it's nice.

And yeah, etrnal hit it on the nail with another method of closing apps without going to the activity manager (but alas, it does not show everything.
