Okay, I just bought a new MBP and install Vista on it.

It's horrible, the trackpad is simply not usable, this problem can be solved by using wireless mouse.

The audio pops noise every 30 secs, turnning wireless off or use Vista Anti Lag will solve it.

Now the most annoying part, the computer hard freezes about twice day, this is unacceptable, I have not seen a computer hard freeze for many years. I meant blue screen of death is kinda okay, but my compputer just freeze Ctrl Alt Fn Del won't work, tried re installing, no help. Anyone had their computer crash with the new MBP?

I am going to try few more days, if this problem is still there, I am going to return it :-(

Computer hard = computer hard drive? Call up Apple and see what they can do for you. For all you know it could just be a faulty machine....

Sorry, what I meant by hard freezes is everything is just stop moving. That is no Ctrl Alt Del, mouse pointer won't move, speaker repeating a horrible noise, the only solution is to press and hold the power button and turn it off. It's dangerous because MBP is not optimized to run Vista, use power button to turn off the computer twice a day, I am pretty sure that isn't very good for the hard drive.

Sounds like you may have a faulty piece of hardware. Can you run the Apple Hardware Test (I think it is on one of the discs that comes with the laptop)? It may find your problem.

Nope... I've been getting the audio crackling too. I've only had one hard reset though... that may be because I've only had it for a night. We'll see what happens

Yes, that is probably why, I also had it on for the whole night....

For the audio crackling, you can download Vista Anti-Lag, just install it and execute it, click Activate.

Yeah... I'm not surprised that there are a few bugs here and there because the macbook is so new. I'm also thinking about using Windows XP instead because Vista under VMWare is SOOOOOOO SLOWWWWWWWW w/ 2GB in my MacBook Pro.

Check your temperatures, I have had my system hard freeze on me because of a bad fan. Install iStat Pro and check it out.

Im guessing you installed the drivers needed for vista from the leopard dvd?

Also does the audio crackle when youre in osx?

Also what version of vista are you running, 32bit, or 64?

And lastly, maybe it was a faulty install somehow, try a reformat.

It just freezed again, few minutes after I turned it on... (the machine is still cold) so I guess it's not because of the heat.

Running 32 bit Vista, using drivers from the disc.

Just curious, are you using wifi for internet access?

I've noticed mine running XP will randomly drop the wifi connection and during this period if I disable the wifi network card, it'll hard freeze the laptop.

very odd reason to return an Apple computer.

did you even take the step of seein if it was also a problem occuring in OS X? or reinstalling Vista?

it is almost guaranteed to be a software issue within Vista, and not a hardware problem.

got to love this particular situation, where all someone is looking for is a quick answer and is not even willing to attempt to properly resolve something.

it could be huge number of different things causing the problem. it would be a great benefit to you to be much more open in resolving computer related problems, and be willing and patient when it comes to troubleshooting.

don't always assume the hardware is at fault.

There is nothing wrong with the hardware. By this I mean all late 2008 MBP have this hard freeze issue with Vista. Stop talking like those people in Apple Store who keep blaming Vista and Microsoft. Yea yea we all know OSX is 100 times beter than Vista. But crashing twice a day is clearly Apple's fault.

Did you upgrade your RAM to 4GB? There is a widespread issue with 4GB of RAM causing random hard freezes, even in OS X. Hopefully Apple releases a firmware update soon to fix these issues, as this is very poor form on their part.

Ok, now more weird, its happening to me too, but I have a MBP 3.1 (SantaRosa late 2007)... with Vista 32bits too and bootCamp 2.1

Tomorrow I will kick Vista away and put XP instead.

Damm, I started thinking it could be the 8600M issue (so I was thinking I had to call Apple to "fight" so the could replace my MBPro with its graphic card damaged out of warranty already and which I've opened once to change de hard-drive)...

Lucky me, I hope tomorrow with XP it will work perfectly again!

I just ordered my MBP (alum) and it should be arriving this week. I don't have any intention in installing Vista but if I did in the future, it sucks to know that there's problems.

Just FYI, I'm experiencing the exact same issue with a newly-purchased MBP. Mine's the 2GB RAM model and I'm running 64-bit Vista Ultimate. At first I was hoping this was a 64-bit issue and going to 32-bit Vista would fix this problem, but after what I've read here I'm disappointed to find out I'm not the only one. OS X is useless to me as I'm a web apps developer and a gamer, so here's hoping this is a situation that gets resolved quickly.
