You won't get far here doing it and it won't be welcome. I'm not sure why you have that attitude. Windows bashing isn't nice or acceptable in the Windows forum and same goes for the Mac in here.

You're taking me a bit too seriously.
I'm not talking about pointless trolling bashes, but there's nothing wrong with an occasional light-hearted jab at either if you're actually making a point about something. -

just for the record- my argument had nothing to do with value, i was only citing the concept of "dollars out of pocket to remain up to date with the OS"
because someone had mentioned the price tag of vista was high comparable to osx.
its true that vista costs more, but its going to be supported at least 3x as long as mac osx.
look at all the software available for mac osx that requires osx 10.4.9 or later. almost ALL the newest software requires the newest OS. coincidentally, almost all of the mac userbase is on osx 10.4 anyway.
windows by nature is going to be supported longer. people like the stability of win2000 and see no need to suffer with presp1 windows xp. people like the stability of xp now, and see little motivation to move on to vista. by the nature of the beast, windows gets microsoft (and especially developer support) for longer than a mac os.
again- regardless of features or perceived value or whatever, there is obviously a huge advantage to staying current with the newest operating system, in that you will have access to a wealth of software developed exclusively for that new operating system. this is true even moreso with mac osx than windows, but applies to both.
if you want to stay current with mac osx, you are going to spend a comparable amount of money as you will staying current with windows. you will actually spend more money on osx if vista stays around through 10.8 (i know they will probably switch to 11 eventually) -
Huh? What ATI announcement are you talking about? Is ATI going to stop making high-end cards? Someone explain!!
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
i think he might just be referring to the fact that when ati released the hd 2900 xt, they made it clear that it wasn't made to compete with the 8800gtx.
-
ATI basically dropped out of the high-end GPU market. Their latest and greatest can only compete against an 8800GTS.
They claim that this is their "strategy" but that's complete BS. It's obvious that they ran into some hurdle that they just couldn't overcome within an acceptable time frame.
So for the moment at least, if you want a high-end graphics card, your only choice is nVidia, which is really unfortunate, it can only be a bad thing for the market. -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
i dont think most people even consider getting 8800gtx's for the desktop anyway.
you could almost get an 8800gts (which should overpower things anyway for now) and then get a 9800gts, which will outperform the 8800gtx by a long shot, for about the same amount of money as one 8800gtx now. -
Dear god, this thread got so sidetracked.
-
yeah...
/thread
its just lame now. i didnt like it to begin with hah
vista mature enough?
wtf -
High end graphics cards have always been a very niche market, and always will be. There's nothing new or different about it now.
-
Ya this thread is way off topic. If you guys want to continue your GPU discussion, start a thread in the Gaming section. Let's keep the posts to Vista and whether it is ready to be an everyday OS.
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
i wouldn't want to meet up with vista in a dark alleyway, thats all i have to say.
-
I think the general consensus is: if you got it, might as well. but don't buy it now, its not worth it.
-
I don't know if I can request this cashmonee, but would you please delete or lock this thread? I really wasn't thinking clearly when I made it and I apologize for it. It has become irrelevant.

Or, if you if you need a mature OS that will work the way you expect it to day in and day out, then stick with XP. If you are ok with an OS that may do things a little different and throw you a curve ball every so often, then give Vista a spin.
For example, file sharing between OSX <-> XP is WAY easier then OSX <-> Vista. -
No Problem. Thread closed.
