My XP on Boot Camp is considerably louder than my OSX with volume set to max. So, yes, my speakers are capable of being louder! Is there any way to get the OSX as loud as my XP? Watching DVDs are a whole lot funner when you can hear things.

//My OSX isn't "that" quiet. But it's considerably quieter than my XP.

Thats kinda weird. Have you checked through the sound options in system preferences in OSX and made sure they're all turned up to the max? They most likely are, as they're set like that default.

Sorry i can't give you more professional advice, but thats the only thing i can think of.

I can confirm that. It is louder in XP. I use the equalizer in VLC to increase the volume of videos. Not sure if there is anything else that can be done.

Darn. I'll download VLC and see if that helps.

Are there any third party programs that increase maximum volume (at the sacrifice of fidelity) globally?

Thanks for the link. From that forum post I managed to find a quick blog snippet of what to do to increase the maximum volume on OSX. Unfortunately it's a complicating process with only individual application support. Odd, isn't it? The fact that XP can be considerably loud whileas OSX is somewhat wimpy.

yeah kinda sad considering macs are supposed to be all media fun and ilife and whatnot...but i guess thats what external speakers are for; plus they always have external logitech speakers on the imacs, mac mini, and mac pros in the apple stores. i've noticed the wimpiness with my imac G5. i wonder if the brand new black/gray imacs that came out this week are any better...but they sure look sweet :)
