Noooo. The iShade is for the new MBP.

Glad I looked at this thread before I jumped on the EPP + Black Friday discount on a new Macbook. Went to the store to take a look at the screen... looked great until I turned the brightness down. This thing is nearly unusable for me at anything less than 80% brightness. There's just way too much glare and reflection on the screen. It's certainly something you could try to ignore, but why work harder when you shouldn't have to?
I guess you could say to keep the brightness pretty high all the time but I need battery life from my laptop and I usually run at about 15-40% brightness. The HP Dv4 with the brightview infinity thing is wayyyyy worse though. Even at max brightness it's hard to use. (My current laptop has one of the more traditional glossy screens so glare isn't something I've never seen before) -
Are we blowing this glossy screen thing a bit out of proportion? If you don't like it that's fine. We don't really need a 6" page thread about it...it has been discussed the day new macbooks were released. Why do random people insist on posting the same thing over and over again? "ya I got the new macbook but it was too glossy so I returned it." or "apple is dumb for making such glossy screens" etc... copy paste much? Seriously... if you don't like it just let it be...
-
I was using my MBP beside a window and there was glare lot's of it, I didn't notice it until I saw this thread again and thought about it. It is easy to see through and it will only bother you if you let it.

The thing is Apple users have no choice. If all the notebooks that Apple offers are glossy, then users have no options if they want to go Mac.
These are some reasons why I was never a hardcore Apple fan. Apple could just do something to irk me and I would have no options if I go Apple. I would just have to let Apple control my computing experience. I do not like that. -
no sun,sky is clouded! -
Actually, it's very important to let Apple know what their customers want. It's not like mac users have much choice in laptops. This is a pretty big issue for some users. I work in an extremely lit office environment with huge windows. If my main 24" screen was glossy, then I wouldn't be able to work. Thankfully, the glossy screen on my MB isn't a very big deal for me because my main monitors are matte, and I seldom work on the MB without a secondary display plugged in.
However, I don't see a reason for your post. -
Sorry if my post offended you, but since I was sucked down into this laptop just cause it's the new MBP, I though someone else might think they really like the new MBP and after buying it they would have problems with the glossy screen. Just like me. I knew it's glossy, and I actually saw the laptop in an apple store, but I didn't spend more then a few minutes looking at the screen of the laptop, I was to amazed about the aluminium body and I just turned the laptop around to feel the new thing. Then I just went home and order it online. Now I am being hit with 10% restocking fee, so maybe people could go and try to sit on the new laptops for more than 5 minutes before they buy it. Yeah, I knew everything about the laptop (after online reviews/info) but personal experience made it unusable for me. You only get to see how good a display is after you work on it for hours, well .. the glossy screen it's so glossy that for myself it's just unusable. I know about the 3M privacy filter, I had one in the past and it's not something I would like to keep over my MBP.
People have to know what to expect, real stuff, not just the craziness of buying the new apple laptops. Besides, I had no choice whatsoever (inside the Apple line of laptops), so I ended up buying it, with the hope I'll get used to it. Well, I didn't and couldn't, and believe me I tried really hard. The previous gen MBP is much better so I'll stick to that, and eat the restocking fee(279$) because my believe that "apple is great whatever they come up with" was hard enough impregnated in my brain to keep me blind on making the proper decision, which now I see as not working on the new laptops. Hopefully Apple will be smart enough to add a non-glossy screen, for people like me. There is bunch of people loving a glossy screen, it's shiny and they like it. But not everyone, and as other said, it's not much of a choice for us who don't. Not from Apple, anyway. I am only saying be smart and open your eyes, otherwise you'll have to open your wallet, for more than you wanted..
me being stupid it's one thing, and I will pay for my mistake, no worries about that; but maybe other people can benefit from my mistakes, it makes no good just letting people go crazy only to be disappointed later. -
is it worse then the one I posted?
-
Was a tripod really necessary?
-
For a fair comparison, he would have to take off the screen as well.
-
Why don't you get yourself a previous gen Macbook Pro? I have one and love it even more after I returned my new MBP. There are plenty of brand new ones still floating around, and you can also go with a refurbished one from Apple. For the basic price of the new MBP you can get the old top modell. You will love it!
-
true, but if it is the ~ same my HDX,it is not really that bad.
-
is your post necessary?
-
Hmm, Xirurg. That's quite a glossy screen you got there. Now us Apple folk don't have as much complaining to do when it comes glossy screens.
-
^also,I think that macbook pro's screen is brighter then HDX's.
-
This is a thread about glossy screens. What did you expect to read in here?
If you don't want to hear people discuss it, then don't click the thread, duh. -
The one you posted is absolutely horrendous... but arent all glossy displays like that when the laptop's off... Although I do believe that things is as glossy as hell even when the laptop's on, it doesn't mean Apple should do the same thing and stick a glossy display in what is otherwise a great laptop.
-
my point i if it is like mine,I can live with it,cos now I am sitting in a very "bright" room, and it is ok-even for photoshop.I am not a pro tho,so it can be a problem for pro users.
-
True that Xirurg. Glossiness bothers some ppl a lot more than others.
-
Lol nice.
Now it should be submitted to Apple, where I'm sure it will be a hot selling item given the new screens.
-
i noticed your blinds are closed downward which is bad because it drones light directly onto the surface. Try closing your blinds upward if you know what i mean.
I got te same side glare because my spare room has windows right beside me.
i dont know why no one has not bothered sueing apple because their promo video "where the chinese chick was sitting at the cafe using her macbook pro outside" has abosolutely no glare.
Do you know which promo vid i am talking about? the one with the bald headed pommy dude was talking crap on how good the unibody is. -
Wow, I'm really sorry for you that you have blinders on. There are hardly any choices in PC land either. Remember, Apple was the last company to offer glossy screens. Just about every notebook in PC land is glossy and they don't offer matte options for the customer.
Also your logic is flawed. What's all this about, "if Apple did something to irk you, you would have no options"? The same goes in PC land. Apple can't control it's customers based on their Mac designs. It's not about the hardware, it's about the OS. The way I see it, Microsoft has more control over you PC fans than Apple does over it's customers. There may be more hardware choices in PC land but for you PC fans you have to deal with Microsoft's decisions on what they do with Windows which has been pretty poor lately.
You can't just walk away from Windows by changing to Dell or HP or Asus. Apple's customers are loyal mostly to the OS and because they have software invested into it just like you PC fans have in Windows land.
In this case both Mac and Windows customers are controlled. -
For hardware, there are still matte screen choices in the business lines of Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc. There are no alternative screen choices for Apple notebooks.
If you are a Mac user, Apple is the only game in town. The only way to run OSX on new hardware with a matte screen is on non-Apple hardware (which breaks the EULA).
People can always run Linux (or BSD) on their notebook if they are unsatisfied with Windows. I run a mixed Linux/Windows environment on my PCs. -
Mabye the early '09 revision of the MB-MBP line will have the option of a Matte screen. I mean, they have to save some minor changes for the updates or they wouldn't have anything to update except a .02Ghz processor bump.
-
Um NO. The 17" MBP has just been updated and it offers both matte and glossy.
-
^or keep glossy concept,but make it...well,less glossy
-
Haha, very good idea.
-
I think Asus did that-hybrid screen-has colors of glossy but with little % of glare...would be awsome to see that on macs...ah,dreams...
-
Yes that would be pretty sweet.
