This is a bit of a weird question :D

On my Black Macbook is it when it is charging the screen feels different than when it is running on the battery. For example, when it is charging and I run my finger along the screen there is more resistance and it is not as smooth as when it is running on the battery. Is this normal?

Well...the obvious question is: why the heck are you touching your screen? :D You like fingerprints/smudges on it?

But seriously, the only thing I can think of is that when you're charging, the chassis is more effectively grounded by having the plug to the wall socket...so maybe it has to do with a static charge build up?

I noticed it when I was trying to get a hair of the screen. Of course you can touch the screen. I mean, Im not constantly touching the screen all the time. I normally use a micro fibre cloth.

What you are experiencing is a common phenomenon that shows just how sensitive human touch is. When your laptop is charging and not connected to a LAN, or any other grounded peripheral, the chassis and circuitry is electrically free floating. As a result, it is subject to a very tiny AC voltage component from the AC adapter. This is an induced voltage as there's no direct electical connection to the AC supply, and is usually in low millivolts, at most . When you touch the screen, your body acts like one plate of a capacitor, with the circuitry behind the screen being the other plate. The plastic screen acts as a dielectric, and the charge on its surface changes with the AC cycles. When you move your finger lightly across the screen it is slightly attracted to the surface 50 or 60 times a second, giving the felling of stickiness.

You can sometimes experience the same thing on the metal frame of a store display case that has fluorescent lighting. If the frame is free floating, a tiny voltage will be induced from the lights.

Are you using the three pronged adapter and is the wall socket / outlet grounded. If it isn't then your laptop will have a small current running through it and it will vibrate a little and feel a bit different.

    Yo...

Since you are juicing up your laptop... and you are making it wet by touching it... that's why it feels different...

    naughty....
