Recently I’ve noticed that the sound indicator on my MacBook is acting up. It sometimes goes all the way up, sometimes all the way down all this while adjusting the volume along the way and without me doing anything on my machine. It's doing this on its' own

I don’t know what I may have done, or installed that would cause this; does anyone have any clue about this? Where can I check for this problem and get it solved?

    Thanks

Are you plugging/unplugging any devices from the 3.5mm jack of your Macbook? OS X keeps two sound profiles, one for the laptop's built in speakers, which is set when there is no device in the jack, and one for external sound devices, when there is something plugged in.
Otherwise, if this is happening in a specific app (such as iTunes), it could be a setting in the application (for example iTunes>Preferences>Playback>Sound Check).

    Thanks for the feedback.

No, I am not plugging anything in, yet this continues to happen irratically! I've even noticed, at times, when the sound is "up" there is a red light emmitting from the earphone jack ... that's really got me messed in the head!

I don't think this has anything to do with iTunes, since I hardly ever run it !! But I will check that application to see what setting I have there, and there is anything that may be causing this.

Sounds like your audio jack port is acting up on you. Try plugging in something and slowly unplugging it. Also try resetting the PRAM.

Search the forums on how to reset the PRAM if you don't want to wait for a response. There are many discussing it.
