It's a long shot, but would anyone happen to have a mid 2012 macbook pro lying around collecting dust? I am looking for one for my son. We just broke out the old mini dv camcorder and he's taken to it. The mid 2012 is the last macbook with firewire on it so it would be an easier connection for him to ahve one of these. Anyone who has one collecting dust, please DM me. Thanks!

    Steve and Colin!

If practical, it might be cheaper to find an old Mac Mini and just hook up a monitor and peripherals to it.

We would rather a Macbook pro as we travel alot and have a travel blog etc. Hence the reason for a Macbook instead.

I was going to use my 2007 Macbook but the upgrade to the ram and software will cost as much as a newer one and the os will be more current at least.

I would look instead at a 2010 model, as the 2011-2012 versions were notorious for logic board failure due to shoddy solder.

Good luck to your son, and if he decides to post his videos on youtube I'd love to see.

2010 13" is a Core 2 Duo, 15" and 17" aren't much better being a dual core i5/i7. 2011 15" and 17" are the finnicky ones with the AMD chip failing, 2011 13" is still fine. 2012 13 and 15" are fine relatively speaking.
As for OP, why specifically a macbook? It seems you've already figured it out with your acer but still

"Supplements" like old time RAMs and SSD/HDD spec of that period is very costly today as most of it dies with gears of that period...

It's not easy to enter and understand the world of kids/grown ups in Autism for outsiders, so as it's harder for parents to get their autistic juniors to blend with the fast moving world.

Your problem is not new, as i know a colleague who's autistic son still lives comfortably in his XP world. It's not easy for the parents to get him a XP laptop for him to bring along and get around in different environment. Nowadays as most of the refurbished or old sets were either loaded with Win7/8/10, it's even harder to get her son the model which he's familiar with...
However, some autistic kids/grown ups can be influenced by their parents if the parents do their part by leading them off that "status quo" position patiently, slowly, and tactically.

Because of this Covid-Lockdown period, my colleague have more time to spend with her junior, and had successfully bring her son out from XP, steps slowly into the Win8 world(still a little buggy with legacy hardwares...). However, the gear that her son initially grown up with, a Fujitsu laptop with that twistable monitor, cannot be found anymore, even in our 2nd hand market...

Yes, he has an acer s3 running windows 10. But he loves using all kinds of different cameras etc. Our Acer 7720 has everything he needs to create movies on. I have the Mac up for sale for whatever I can get for it now. It's really just a paperweight at this point.

I believe the X230T has a rotatable display? Maybe ask them to try one of those out, they're pretty cheap
