Well I decided to exchange my 10 day old MBP for the new base model. I went in and talked to customer service. The manager was standing nearby doing other things.
They said that they won't have the Penryn-based MBPs for another 7 days and that I can return mine now and get a full refund and just wait the few days till they come in.
Then the manager threw me a curve ball. He said he would refund me $300 if I decide to keep mine instead. That's $300 on top of my already heavily discounted MBP. Quick math in my head and I took his offer.
Considering this, it would now have cost me around $500 to upgrade to the new model and that just isn't worth it. All in all I think I did pretty good coming in at $2000 CAD after taxes but that includes applecare, .mac, iWork and my Tucano Second Skin sleeve.![]()
I think people will be able to negotiate some pretty good deals now that they refreshed the models. Many places are going to be trying hard to clear stocks of the old models with pretty heavy discounts. A win-win for us.

Good deal, until you realized the $300 he gave you was actually Monopoly money...MUAHahaha

I don't know if apple Canada would have offered me the deal I got today. I got it from FutureShop which is owned by BestBuy. -
I went for the refresh instead. Guess it depends what you want!
300 off would have made me think. -
For me the biggest concern was the HD. I really wanted something bigger than 120GB. The other stuff weren't important to me. But now I'm thinking of getting a large USB flash drive or an external HD; both are dirt cheap and would keep my important large files secure.
I wanted to try out the multi-touch badly but instead I got to keep my $19 remote. -
The multitouch is ok, its not amazing...I just love the scrolling but I guess everyone has that?
-
Yeah, the scrolling is awesome and we have that with the current MB/MBP. It's so good in fact that every time I use my windows pc I'm looking for it.
Went to return my MBP and returned home with the same one
