    Alright, let's set the scene..

    1.) MacBook Pro
2.) Western Digital My Book Pro Edition II (FireWire 800)
3.) Western Digital Passport 120GB (USB 2.0 port near mag-safe power adapter)
    4.) DVI-to-HDMI cable connecting 47" LCD TV
5.) Cable modem plugged into ethernet port
6.) Printer, LaCie 250GB hard disk, Wireless Game Pad plugged into powered USB Hub plugged into MBP's second USB port beside FireWire 800 port.

Alright, so all that is plugged in. My MBP was on, I was watching a DVD from the 2TB hard drive on my 47" LCD TV, and I had just ejected the Western Digital Passport 120GB hard drive.

So, I unplug it from the USB port.

Suddenly, the 2TB hard disk shuts off, the LaCie hard disk shuts off, the keyboard light goes off, the LED back light and display go off, the fans turn off in a split second from 6000 to 0. The only thing still illuminated is my TV displaying a frozen image from the DVD I was watching and the little white light on the displays latch.

Than a couple seconds later, the laptop comes back on, to the same spot it was before this hick-up. The movie resumes playing on the TV as the external hard drives turn back on.

What the hell just happened? The power didn't go out, but the MBP was very unhappy for a minute.

Amazing? :p I just lost three years on my lifespan from the small stroke this caused me. :p

I've never had this happen before, so I must admit it freaked me out.

Did it go into sleep mode? Since it didn't turn off since it didn't lose it's progression. Seems odd for sleep mode to come on just from ejecting an external hard disk.

Yes, my system is pretty much always plugged in. It's connected to a surge protector.

It couldn't be a power surge, as no other devices were bothered and the lights didn't dim.

The hard drive was ejected from Leopard, I waited a moment, and unplugged it. Than the weird incident happened.

All I can think of is maybe the logic board had a power surge, what with all I've got plugged into it, and the Passport hard drive works by drawing power from the USB port. :|
