When you are away from the computer, what do you do?

    1. Keep it on 24/7
    2. Sleep
    3. Shut Down

You should make this a poll but anyway.

If I'm not using it and won't be for a while (e.g. Overnight) I shut it down. If I am using (e.g. downloading) it then I just leave it on. Otherwise I just close the lid and it will just go to a nice sleep. The best thing about Macbooks is that they wake up extremely fast compared to a Windows machine.

I sleep it. I never shut down any Mac because there's no need. Windows will screw itself up if you leave it on or standby it, but MacOS X is so well designed theres not need for that at all. Keeping it on is a waste of electricity. I care about the environment. Vote Green (cough).

What purpose is this question you ask?
I sleep it... but really, why does it matter what we do?

If you keep it on, the battery life will shrink right?

Also if you put it in sleep, will it still download?

If I'm not downloading any torrents over night i usually just close the lid, i hardly turn the laptop off...Being a lifelong windows user this still doesnt feel right and ive been using my mac close to two months now...but mac is awesome, keep it on as long as you want, itll sleep itself and cool itself

I usually put it to sleep, never leave it on. Once in a while I will shut it down because I just cannot drop that habit from Windows.

Hummm curious to know that people mostly set it to sleep instead of shutting it down. What are the effects of this on battery-life? Will the battery last longer?

I thought it was better if you shut down your computer...but maybe that's only for Windows.

Technically, if you want to talk about the hardware, it's worse shutting it off. Just like a car. The electronics are stressed most on start up and shut down. Of course, with windows, you always have to eventually restart due to it's piss poor memory management. You never really have to shut down a unix or linux based system.
