I hear a lot of negative about the screen. does anyone actually like the screen? Looking to buy one, but will skip if the screen is as bad as people say.

The screen is honestly the ONLY thing keeping me from getting the computer. I've looked at it myself at a Best Buy and I've played around with my friend's Macbook and I just don't like the contrast and viewing angle on it.

The screen has a very narrow cone where the colors are the best, but even within this cone the whole screen isn't the correct color. If you get a black picture as your background and position the screen in its best position (as I did at the store) you can either get the top of the screen to show really black blacks, but not the bottom, or you can get the bottom of the screen to show black blacks but not the top.

In other words, the viewing angle on this computer is so small that there efficiently ISN'T one.

On the other hand, I noticed the problem much less when bright colors were on the screen, so if you pick a brightly colored background and don't expect to do picture or video editing on it (or are willing to plug it into an external monitor to do so) I think you might be pleased with the results.

The reflections didn't bother me even in a store as bright as Best Buy though, and I'm a fan of Matte screens.

I'm considering just holding onto the computer I have for now. Really I'm split three ways. The Macbook, the Lenovo U330, and neither.

The best thing you can do is go check out one in person. Then you will know if the screen meets, or falls short of your expectations, rather than hearing about it second hand...

There are some decent photos somewhere showing what Nitrous is talking about - the lack of a perfect 'sweet spot'. I find that very disconcerting... it's a premium laptop. A little bizarre cost-saving decision.

Right now, there are three 13.3-inchers that can compete - the Macbook, the Lenovo IdeaPad U330, and the Dell Studio XPS 13. Each has it's strengths and drawbacks. :)

The screen I had on my AluBook was a POS. Looking dead on the screen the middle 1/3 is black on a black background, the top and bottom was silver. Darker images inverts at off angles.

My screen on my MB is pretty good. It's looks a bit glossy when you have a light directly in the background, but other than that it is great. It gets pretty bright, and can go quite low also. The contrast levels are ok, but not as good as the MBP's screen. I would go for it if I were you.

I have no complaints at all about my MacBook screen. I think most of the complaints are from people are purposely looking for things to complain about.

It is very reflective like a mirror. It is hard to see in a very bright room with windows (Hospital cafeteria). You have to alter the angle of the screen to see well.

It is an annoyance but not a deal breaker for me.

I still love my Macbook Pro.

I may buy a refurb macbook pro (not the alum) instead, but I'm scared of getting one with a defective NVIDIA card.

As someone who briefly owned a AluBook and now has a Aluminum MBP, the screen on the AluBook really wasn't very good, I will even go as far as saying that it's a tiny little bit worse than the previous MacBooks' screens, the view angle was as narrow as the previous gen, but the color contrast seemed to be worse. So far the best screen I've seen on a 13 inch is on Sony's, everything else about the Sony felt cheap but the screen was incredible colorful and vivid. I'm desperately hoping for a review on the Studio XPS 13 because as light as the MBP is, it's still a little too big for my portability needs. A 13 inch is perfect in my opinion.

Since a refurb comes with full warranty AND Apple has acknowledged the NVidia issue (and providing additional warranty)......why are you worrying?

I'll go to the store to check out the screen and compare it to the MBP.

The MB is very good, the new Sony Z is a little better and the best I have seen, but the MB is excellent for 13". I think the change has a lot of people distressed, because it is different. Coming from a Sony to the new Alum MB, I have no complaints, the MB is better than my older Sony SZ.

I had the Macbook with 9C89 screen (LG/Philips) and sold it after a week. Vertical viewing angle was very narrow. Moving my head would invert the colors (black/grey) on the safari tab bar. The contrast rates and black levels are average. Nothing like Sony Z, MBA or MBP.

Many consumers are ok with it though, but if you're spoiled like me, I doubt it will satisfy you.

The other screen (AUO) that's being used on the Macbooks is slightly better. But also falls short of sony Z, MBA and MBP.

^Agree with Phil...now,for me the screen is #1 priority when choosing a notebook! One of my friends bought Sony Z with 1600x900 and it is %*$&#( awesome!!!! if you want the best screen on 13",Sony Z is the way to go,followed by SR and macbook Air.
