Ok so the first day that I got my MacBook Pro it had a broken delete key. It came off, one of the four plastic pieces holding it in place was broken. I spent a good amount of time trying to get it back on, which I did eventually. So I am going to the Apple store on Wednesday to see what they can do about it. What do you guys think will happen? Will they have to send it to Apple to get it fixed which isn't an option for me, or will they fix it on site? Or in the absolute most crazy case scenario, REPLACE it? I was just curios what ya'll think.
-
I think they will be able to fix it on site if its actually broken.
-
Its very possible that they'll just hand you a new machine...IF...they have a similar specced machine in stock. If you're expecting one of the newer machines, I don't think they'll replace it as readily.
-
Worst Case Scenario: They fix your key.
Somewhat Unlikely Scenario: They give you a new equal spec machine
Less Likely Scenario: They give you a brand new macbook pro with similar price and spec range.
Best Case Scenario: They will shower you with women, money and power. Steve Jobs will fly down and kiss the ring on your hand. They will feed you grapes while peasants mine for the aluminum and hand craft a new machine right in front of you. Apple will then 'dispose' of said peasants and label your machine as a one of a kind ultimate edition macbook. -
I CHOOSE OPTION 4!!! WOOHOO GO MEEEEEEE!!! Man that'd be the best ever lol
-
I dunno I got option 4 before and it wasn't all that great... when they say they'll shower you with women, money, and power, they mean it... dropped a buncha fat women on me, then poored a million pennies on, then electrocuted me... it wasn't very fun.... I learned not to complain anymore.

Hope you have better luck with it than I did when I called in to get a fix for the same issue. One of our users had his MBP for less than a week (brand new machine) and one of the keys came off. Call Apple, and was quoted a price for a replacement keyboard since they dont fix "accidental damage caused by the user". So...good luck.
-
My guess is option 1 or above, most of the units Ive dealt with were a 50/50 crapshoot of the 2 options
-
The should fix it on site and may take an hour or 2 depending on how busy they are. A piece of plastic chipped off my macbook white model and they did it on site. When i called apple they said some places fix them on site and some dont. You should be okay.
-
Shoot if they tried to tell me it was my fault and wouldn't fix it...man they will lose me forever. I'll stay pc and I'll get a zune. But I don't think they will so no worries eh?
-
Or, let's get real and face the truth scenario:
If they can't fix it and if you bought it online they will not swap it out in store because they use two different inventories.
There are two ifs there so it all depends. -
I thought that was what the stores are for though? Take your comp there and have it fixed and whatnot. Not just a place to buy, or only help if you buy it from there. Atleast that is the impression I got from them when I called Apple.
-
Lol, I was being a you know what in my previous post but it is true; they'll only accept something back if you bought it in the store itself. I mean, honestly, I don't think it's that hard to replace a keyboard. Dell did it twice on my Vostro. But, because Apple is exactly different it may be a whole other story...
Best of luck! -
most Dell keyboards replace in about 1 minute... very simple... Apples are much harder, a bigger unit because of backlighting and how they are put in...
-
And the whole top case would have to be replaced, because of the unibody form factor.
-
Dang Man this could be bad for me. If they say no, then I'm stuck. I cant give up my comp. I have ALL online classes right now.
What do you think will happen?
