Seems like it would be a win for them to do this. It's just another way to make XP/Vista look inferior since they could not read/write to Apple's FS. It would also make life that much easier for Mac users in mixed environments.

My experience with NTFS-3G has not been that great. Seems like Apple could help it turn the corner.

I believe that Linux has it's own implementation & solution to this problem, so I guess that Apple doesn't want to allow people to write.

    MacFUSE

But as to why it's not supported by default in OS X, who knows.

I have Tiger with Macfuse/NTFS-3g installed. It is great now that I can write to my ntfs USB external hard drive but transfer times from hard drive to mac seem excruciatingly slower compared to before macfuse/ntfs-3g was installed. I can understands slower transfer from mac to external hd but why would hd to mac slow down too?

It may be a problem with how the program deals with transfers (more likely a bug). You may want to ask the developers or read their forum (if they have any).

Yea its probably still using ntfs-g to read from it, as opposed to osx to read it. So it would still be slow.

Just for people who don't know, another shout out for Paragon. I've got the public beta, which works so much better and is much easier to install than the other solutions out there. It's made life a lot simpler for me since installing it.
