    Hi,
I create this thread with the idea of sharing our ideas about how Apple can make their product better. We paid a premium price to get the macbook/macbook pro, therefore we are deserved for a good product.
I love my macbook black. The product itself is a piece of art. The keyboard and OS X are fantastic. Battery life is definitely a plus over PC laptop. However, I am very disappointed with the screen quality. Compare to MBP, the taste is poor. I would love to see that Apple increase the screen resolution. If they make all these things, the macbook/macbook pro is definitely worth every penny you spent.

I am leaving the US for a few months and cant bring my deksktop with me. I have to live the Macbook for 3 months. I am ok with the graphic card, since I dont intend to game anyway, but the screen quality is disappoint me alot. I am thinking about upgrading to a macbook pro, but there is many disadvantages for me such as: I cant find anyone that want to downgrade from a macbook pro to macbook for a good deal (poor college student), and Snow Leopard is expected to come out. What do you think I should do??

    - better video card
    - multi-touch/tablet screen on selected models
    - if not, make the touchpad wacom-like input
    - hybrid SLI support
    - openCL is coming but please beg for more support from developers
    - better asian market penetration and support, there are way too many things chinese would miss if they switch to mac online without windows running somewhere.
    - improve further and faster than windows on software
    - be it a merge or acquisition, get adobe back into the game, apple isn't everything without adobe.
    - time for a net-tablet w/ 9400m + 5hrs battery, make it cost around 1500-1700, while not likely, come out with another tablet less than macbook(although unlikely.
    - make a better differentiation between macbook and macbook pro, from a business point of view the line is dilluting way too much, pro needs to be "pro". this should give room for a lesser 15.4 macbook line and bigger share in market. i was stupid to purchase macbook pro with editing photos in mind before knowing it has only 6bit color depth(ok, +2 dither, blah) and 45% color gamut, that's not pro quality at all.
    - ditch the macbook screen and get something better.
    - full HD resolution on smaller than 17" model, Bluray drive
    - allow the lid to close without going to stand by without insomnia.
    - ability to turn off mouse acceleration, why do i need a 4000dpi on 15" screen to move steadily anyways?
    - RGB screen, if you charge premium give us PVA or MVA at least for viewing pleasure.
    - don't go OLED until blue is fixed.

ok, i am not asking for everything to happen at once as the price will be 5k for a 15" model given the mark up... lol

get an older generation macbook pro then? since unibody macbook still have the same poor screen...

You know, with the glass screen, it would be easy for apple to make them touch screen, like the iphone, It wouldn't really need a re-design....

    >.> I think sell your MB ( I don't prefer selling the laptop if there are other ways to get the money), and since you have a black MB, it would sell for a better price than the white one. Use the money for a new MBP(or a used one).

    Wish for
    >>>Removable DVD ROM
    >>>a slot-loading DVD ROM that won't scratch the disk and make less noise
    >>>The lid can be opened all the way to 170 degree
    >>>A docking station
    >>put the two USB ports on different sides of the notebook

    >>>Come with some necessary adaptors instead of a piece of cleaning cloth.....
    >>>Use less memory than it is now
    >>>With a less buggy safari

I think there are many improvements that Apple could make, but keep in mind, these are "wants." These improvements would make the average introduction Macbook Pro around $4K. ;) I would like to see a Quad in a notebook though... :p :D

While I've been pretty happy with all my Apple PC's

MBA - needs 4gb Ram, a bigger, faster HD or bigger SSD (250gb), replaceable battery, and a second USB port
MB - needs a better display (the MBA display is Awesome) and a real DVI connector
iMAC - needs user replaceable HD
MBP - needs user replaceable HD (fixed in the latest generation)

Still a happy apple owner, but nothing's perfect for everyone.

    for laptops....
needs all adapters to come with it...
needs to have slightly more venting drilled in the aluminum for venting heat
    Expresscard 54 slot, not just a 34
go back to a TI Firewire controller
higher quality fans... with more aggressive cooling...

To be fair, nobody offers a 13.3" screen with more than a 1280x800 resolution except for Lenovo, and that laptop starts at $2000.

    However, as far as improvement:
Ship with at least a MDP to HDMI adapter
Ship with a remote like they used to
    ExpressCard slot
Make the USB ports farther apart so you can actually have two things plugged in at once

This all applies to a MacBook obviously.

The only thing I'd like is a Firewire port. I have an iPod that I'd prefer to sync with Firewire. But, USB seems to be good enough. The firewire port on my desktop synchronizes my iPod a lot faster than USB.

wold have to be a really old iPod to sync with firewire.. was years ago they removed the ability to do that on ipods... doubtfully they'll put support for firewire back in the iPods to worry about syncing issues.

Better selection of displays. Two options suck, period. Especially when I can only use one on my year old computer, and the 30" needs an overhaul anyways (and a price drop to get out of 2007 pricing). Throw some SD card readers in that puppy, so it can be like most other high quality, high end monitors. It's also nice that it still has a built in Firewire 400 hub, when none of the current products even have the port. (Not that Apple is reading, but just because... Apple, I have skipped you as a display option for the last two monitors I've purchased. I love your computers, but seriously, monitors... fix it, or this summer I'm going with yet another non-Apple 30" display)

Second... Apple, your trackpads are awesome... your external mice suck. Always have too. I've been a Mac user for over 20 years, and I've been replacing my mice on every new Mac I buy for more than half that time. It works for some people, but I'm just happy third party mice options exist.

    Other than that, I'm peachy.

Yeah, I have 2 Minis and a 4th gen 40gb that both sync over firewire with my desktop PC.

Funny thing though, I restored them all on my Mac with the Mac format, and now they sync ten times faster than under Windows format. (Okay, maybe not 10 times, but its a lot faster.) One of my Minis has a 32gb CF card in it, and that was never all that fast, now it synchronizes on par with the 6gb Mini I have that still has its Microdrive.

I think I'll agree with the matte screen option. :)

I mean the MBP is IMO a "perfect" notebook, except for the fact that the glassy screen is very distracting. :( I do agree that that glassy screens are simply great for watching movies, viewing photos, & such. :) However, for most people, a notebook is purchased to help us to our work (most of the time) & working in a typical office/classroom/library, the glass screen can be really annoying. :( I'll also be willing to pay more for this matte option.... Oh well, IF ONLY Apple will give us this option in the near future. :(

1st Mice specifically the mighty mouse. Apple sucks with mice.
    2nd video card
3rd price. the price is too much and the product really is not worth that much
4th this is not apple's fault but 3rd party software is way slower on mac
which i really hate. like skype / msn messenger etc..

Not necessarily true. I had an older MacBook Pro (the one right before the unibody model), which I sold so that I could then "downgrade" to a unibody MacBook (just because I love to be on the cutting edge, and I also wanted a little more portability). But the older generation of MBPs with the 8600M GT still have far superior screens compared to the new unibody MacBooks.

As for Snow Leopard, the way I see it, you're already dropping over a grand on a computer either way, so I don't see what an extra $130 (if it's even going to be that much) is. :)

Yeah I agree. The all silver look of the older model looked much better.

If you get the older one with the 8600GT, make sure it has warantee or at least had the 8600 "fix" from Apple.

I'm sure you know all about the 8600GT problems.

Or why not get a unibody macbook?

It is not that I am not aware of the problem, but I ran into many uncertainties:
    1. I will need a good screen for 2~3 months only.
    2. Snow leopard is coming up.
    3. Alu MBP is so expensive.
    4. I planned for a new MBP with new Intel mobile flat form & USB3.0, etc.. all the good stuff that can be in the next MBP model (this will be my graduation gift for next year)
    5. Poor college student.

Apple will fix the a failed 8600GT nVidia GPU in and out of warranty for free. This only applies to MBPs made between May 2007 and September 2008 however.

much more usb ports, and much much much better screens. and glossy ones. and not go to 16:9 in the future.

and start to be innovative again. like the hp elitebook 8730p has optionally an artists screen with 10bpp and high quality, the lenovo one with the wacom tablet integrated, dualscreen. those are high end "PRO" ideas implemented there. that should be in a macbook pro to be seriously called "pro".

not that shiny uhh-it-looks-pretty direction they go nowadays (and limiting everywhere usage down to what they exactly want..).

all in all, they should be forwardpushing the market with innovation again.

For the Aluminum Macbook - a better quality screen and Firewire (duh)

    For bootcamp - better drivers.

For the Macbook Pro - a smaller form factor Macbook Pro similar to the old 12 inch Powerbook.

because not that many deviced used firewire and apple machine is not that many arround compare to a PC with usb.
