I know some might think I am being over dramatic but I pay the high premium and I expect a high quality product.
I got my new i7 15" macbook pro last wednesday. I noticed maybe 2 or 3 days after I got it I that there was this tiny dent to the left of my left speaker. It's nothing huge, maybe 1 cm long and a fraction of a cm wide but once you notice these things they really start to tick you off.
In the last 3 months I have gone through about 2 dell "studio xps" systems due to major build quality issues and finding this mark today just about broke my heart (thearpy please).
What are my options?
I don't really want to go without a laptop for another week so if that is my only option I will just live with it....
And, I know this is not anything of my doing unless my soft little generous fingers somehow dented my macbook... I have babied this thing since I brought it into this world (unboxing) and this whole ordeal just frustrates me.
Am I able to get a replacement for it being "defective"? If so would it be brand new. If not would I be able to get a full refund and re order? Or would they send me a new laptop and I sent this one back? Does the 10% restocking fee apply?
Here is a picture. The picture doesn't show the real depth of it but it's noticeable when you do notice it..

reading the whole thing.. i was going to say take it back.... then i saw the picture.. thats tiny!
You'll probably get worse marks than that over its life. -
Unless they made the speaker holes bigger and spread them out, there is no way that is 1cm maybe 1mm.

I'm pretty sure they'll take it back and give you a new one. I'll say it's small, but you did pay for a new one with no defects, so unless they offer you a small credit to keep it, I would send/take it back.

Is it really worth the trouble of getting a replacement just because of that?
And there is every chance that the replacement would also have a problem, maybe an even bigger one...
Don't waste your time on it mate -
Josh,
You can't seem to catch a break.
First your Dell, now this.
I would take it to the Genius bar.
They should be able to order a new top case, and replace it for you.
Good as new. -
I think I will just call tomorrow.
If any of the options sound reasonable like a replacement without a restocking fee I may go with it. If it's anything else I will live with it. It just breaks my heart when you expect something perfect for once and it lets you down. -
consider your laptop pre-broken in. lol
seriously, don't stress out over something like that. -

I am pretty anal about my stuff especially new electronics, so I feel your pain. However, that is very very tiny. As you said, you didn't even notice for a couple days.
If its REALLY bothering you take it to a Genius and see your options. If it was me, I would let that one go.
Good luck! -
LOL.
I feel your pain man. I'm real anal when it comes to the aesthetics of my MBP. I try to keep it in the same condition as when I first got it, deadstock and mint. Unfortunately and eventually, you'll begin to see marks/scratches/scuffs/dents as you and your MBP age together.
The day I found some scratches on the bottom of my MBP, I nearly shed a tear. I mean, its at the bottom so who is going to see it right? That's what I keep telling myself but deep down inside me, I know that scratch is there and it irks me.
Forgive me but I know I have OCD lol -
Bottom line - if it bothers you, get it taken care of.
Sure its tiny and wouldn't bother most people. But this is not their machine its yours, and it bothers you. So get it fixed. You paid enough for it. -
Is it too late to call since it has been a week?

i think there is a serious possibility that you caused that without noticing... that mark is SO small... SO SMALL

congratulations on ur new mbp, that being said. you know people usually do this kind of returns and procedures, when there is a major defect like screen being misalligned, defective keyboards, really deep and long scratches etc. if i was an apple employee and you come to me, i would believe that either the dent was created by yourself, or its not really big of a deal.
really, save this hassle, i know how you feel, absolutely, but just think of all the things involved in this.
my macbook pro CAME with scratches on the bottom, and some dust IN the little holes of the speakers, had to get them out with tape, literally just blocking the little holes so you obviously notice it when you look at them. I noticed them firstly when it came, cuz i love to carefully inspect a valuble electronic as well. there is also a visible very long but not deep scratch horizontally on the palm rest. I ignored all those things because apple isn't going to replace it because of those things in my opinion. but i might be wrong because it is expensive luxury and having paid so much you obviously deserve what you paid for. you've had the laptop for as long as the mbp would is no longer considred to be brand new, but excellent conditon as ebayers would say, hopefully you have advanced warranty or care services, and not just ordered the laptop without any extras services.
There are lot of big obstacles waiting for you in life, if you can't go through something so tiny, then you should really start practicing to. Take things like a man! Tell yourself its no big deal, its jsut a laptop, you will eventually get another one soon. Cars are expensive too, and gets little dents and scratches new, but it aint somethign you can replace in a few years like a laptop. so its different things what you imagine of.
TAKE IT LIKE A MAN AND ENJOY UR MBP BEFORE ITS A PIECE OF OBSOLETE JUNK ON EBAY. -
ignore the dent. and tell urself you are so chivalrous, understanding, and wise of doing so.
-
The reasonable thing to do is realize over time, you will cause wear to the machine much greater than that dent ...
If my laptop came with a dent like that, I would keep it. I just happen to have other things to do with my time than argue with people in customer support. -

LOL dent... yeah... I have had much worse, at least you got it now, instead of worrying to keep scratch free.
What to do about my new Macbook Pro that came with a scratch/dent?
