I have Tiger right now, and I have XP installed in Parallels. If I do the Archive and Install, whatll happen to Parallels and XP?

Also, is Archive and Install going to install a brand new installation of Leopard or just upgrade TIger to it?

It's best to do an Archive and Install when you are reinstalling the same version of OS. If you are doing a major OS upgrade it's best to do a clean install and I am talking about a reformat and install.

Reformat and install is done through Disk Utility. At the install screen there are options on the menu bar to choose Disk Utility. You can do a full erase, reformat and install from there.

Archive and Install moves all your existing files and settings to the side and installs the system folder of the new OS. This works well but your old files created from Tiger will be put back in place and may cause unstable behavior and you may find yourself complaining amongst the ones that didn't do their install of Leopard properly.
Parallels is just a virtual machine that installs Windows. You can back up your virtual machine to your iPod or any backup drive and then reinstall Parallels and put your virtual machine back. Good luck.
