We know that Leopard is (scheduled for release) in October. What (if any) updates do you expect to see before or around 4th qtr. 2007?

New iPods next month, I'm predicting. They're long overdue and previously new iPods were announced in September as well.

Possible MacBook update in October as well.

I would hope to see a Macbook update in October to coincide with Leopard. Will it happen? I don't know, but I personally think that they're due for it.

Its possible there would be a macbook update. Its a stretch though.

Macbook pro is already up to date. They aren't going to update that when the top shelf hardware is already in it...

    New iphone? hah.

    New ipod is possible...

    My vote is leopard only.

I assume this is not counting today's press event where they unveiled the new iMacs, iLife '08, iWorks '08, etc.? Also not counting the update to the Mac Minis? :)

I read somewhere about a future update to AppleTV, I just pray it's PVR capabilities :)

I don't know, with today's stuff, I don't think there will be more new stuff until Leopard comes out. When that happens, I don't think they'll update anything else. I'd say the MacBooks (not Pro) will get be updated later.

Apple definitely did a lot of updates and really focused on their Mac line, which can only be a good thing considering the sales that we've been seeing. With all these updates and Leopard coming I could see sales and market share rise significantly for the Mac.

I voted for an update to the iPod. The current gen is getting long in the tooth, and the competitors are starting to edge in on iPod sales. Apple wont neglect their turn around product just because they sold more notebooks last quarter.

New iPods first probably, and then a new iPhone next. I think iPods by Sept and iPhone as early as Nov, but no later than MacWorld.

First off, fallen1981, there is an Edit button for a reason ;). Next time you can just edit the original post instead of posting a correction.

I don't see an ultraportable yet. Leopard will be all about Leopard, and Apple doesn't want the craze of an ultraportable eclipsing the release of Leopard. As I've said in previous posts, I'd expect an ultraportable in 2008.

My choice isn't in the poll. :(

The thing that will most certainly be updated in Q4 is the Mac Pro. Intel's 45nm shrink Penryn will be released in Q4 in it's Xeon variants and Apple will no doubt want to get first dibs on them to avoid performance challenges from AMD's upcoming Barcelona. A Mac Pro refresh will also bring the 8800 and/or HD 2900 and/or their refreshes to Apple in order to take advantage of the new OpenGL 2.1 support of Leopard. New GPUs will also be on time for Unreal Tournament 3 and other upcoming games.

The only other computer to get a refresh will be the MacBook, probably in November, after Leopard, but in time for Christmas. I believe Intel has said that the GMA X3100 will have drivers with full hardware DX9.0c acceleration by the end of the year, so that would be the perfect time for the GMA X3100 to be added to the MacBook when it's capabilities can be fully enabled. The MacBooks will also be recieving 800MHz CPUs, as part of the Santa Rosa platform.

Neither the MacBook Pro or the iMac will be refreshed since mobile Penryn varieties aren't going to show up until Q1 2008, since Intel has least threat from AMD on that front. Apple may well wait until Q2 in order to take advantage of the Montevina and DDR3.

As a footnote, Tiger will also be updated to 10.4.11.

I think they'll find a way to pitch Leopard along with the Macbook. My guess would be with the hardware acceleration of the X3100.

Why would Apple care about DX9.0c support? Unless it's a VMware Fusion thing...

Who knows? :p Only Steve does. But considering that all the iPods are pretty old now, I wouldn't be surprised if all the iPods were updated at an event in September.
