Here's a strange one:
Yesterday I asked my wife to pick me up a displayport to vga adaptor from the local FNAC store (bit like bestbuy). I gave her a note with the info and away she went.... returning super happy cause she found the right object!!!
And according to the pack she had.... there written across the top was displayport to vga.
But for some strange reason I looked at the cable before I ripped open the pack. That's odd, it seems a bit big for a mini displayport, sure enough it was an old mini-dvi adaptor, not only that but it wasn't even a vga port on the other end but a dvi!
So has anyone else come across this it a complete stuff up packaging wise by apple?
Or do u think some cleaver fella figured out a way to open the pack switchout the cable and get a refund?
I will try and take some pic's and post them later before I return the product to the store.

I think the latter is the case. Although I am usually not so cynical, it seems hard to believe that Apple would mess up the packaging on an adapter (although that too may be possible).
What is your recourse now? -
Double check the part number / model number on Apple's site?

You should send those pictures to Apple hear what they have to say. I am sure they will get a kick out of this too and may compensate you for your inconvenience (i.e. send you a free cable)

The package clearly states displayport to vga which the adaptor inside clearly isn't.
No numbers are going to change that. -
I think the issue is more likely with someone returning doggy stuff to the store, than with apple anyways.
I will take it back tomorrow but I don't expect anything but an exchange.

I just checked the "Mini DVI to VGA" adapter that I bought a month ago, I haven't opened it but I just realized that the adapter is too big for the mini display port.
I must have gotten the wrong one!! Darn...another $40 down the drain. -
Toshiba Dude, call apple and complain. They will surely rectify it for you.

EDIT: I had a colleague who purchased an MBP with a MDP to DVI adapter and he was hoping that he could use his older MBP's DVI to vga adapter to daisy chain and get a MDP to DVI and VGA adapters without spending another 30 bucks. Anyway, because the connector types are slightly different, this didn't work. He called up Apple claiming how they were and nickeling and diming their premium customers over adapters which wouldn't cost them more than a couple of cents. They went ahead and sent him both a MDP to DVI and a MDP to VGA adapte for free. So although I am not suggesting you should take advanatge of Apple, you should bring this to their attention in the event that this may have been a mistake at the factory. Given Toshiba Dude's recent experience as well, it may well be an issue at the factory. -
Well took it back to the store, but unfortunately I had to settle for a refund, as they were out of stock of the mini display to vga adaptors; as was the local apple store too.
No cable for you... two weeks !
