any ideas when they release the new redeisgned MBP? should i wait till then to get one? and would anyone have any pics of the new design
-
in next month or so (our forum guess)
-
MacRumors keep tabs on the lengths of time between MacBook Pro updates, and history tells us that we have less than 30 days until the next update is due. And Apple doesn't like to be late with product cycles.
(not counting the Cinema Displays, of course...) -
30 days until it is ANNOUNCED. They probably won't hit shelves until October.
-
i fell that apple's strategy is pretty shrewd. They release the MBP's after the back to school rush so they get rid of their previous generation inventory. The MB refresh usually will come in April / May thereby giving them a good push for the 09 BTS rush.
Just my 2 cents. -
I bet they're waiting for quads too...
-
people have been saying "soon, soon, soon" all summer now...im glad i picked up my mbp end of may...got lots of good summer use out of it

Doubtful. Intel only have 2 mobile quads on their immediate roadmaps. A 2.53GHz Extreme Edition with 45W TDP. Apple has never supported a 45W TDP or an Extreme Edition on the MBP. An there is a 2.26GHz quad core coming too. However, both won't likely find there way into the MBP if only for price alone. The CPU that Apple uses as it's BTO is the one that Intel offers at it's $530 price point, the 2.53GHz Extreme is at a $1038 price point while the 2.26GHz quad core is at a $851 price point. Even if Apple could cool those chips adequately, they are far too expensive to offer as a BTO much less as a mainstream chip. Plus, at 2.26GHz, most people will see much better performance and lower cost from the 2.8GHz dual core Penryn for Montevina with a 35W TDP that Intel is offering at the $530 price point which will likely be Apple's next BTO. -
I'm expecting new Mac notebooks in September with new iPods in October. At this rate, Apple is avoiding the back-to-school promotion deal and using it to clear inventory of the older Macs, and Apple doesn't like to announce too much at one time as some products won't get any media coverage that way (such as the iPhone completely eclipsing the Apple TV back in Macworld 2007). I'm expecting the iPods to appear in late September or October.
-
but Sam,they had tradition to update iPods every september 5th,they have donr that last 3 years!
-
I have seen the prices on many windows notebooks dropping, am I optimistic to think Apple will drop prices in the new models as well?
-
Not likely. Especially if they bring something special under the hood, it's going to stay at the same prices IMHO.
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
when does the back2school promotion end?
thats approximately when they will update the ipods and mac laptops. -
Its possible, but if Apple doesn't really follow the industry that much. Just don't worry about the price going up, expect the price to stay the same and hope its a bit lower
.
-
i think the old mac laptops will drop in price to pave way for the newer ones. it seems like the best move imho. that way, the newer laptops can have the prices of the older ones. i can't wait to see what the aluminum macbook will look like!!!!!!! probably like the macbook air but with more ports and better specs.
-
They will be losing the back to school crowd who are going for big discount on older models and the new centrino 2 models....Apple does not offer much discount except for the normal student discount and free iPod Touch....I was waiting for the new rumored macbooks...I guess it will be a while before the release of new macbooks or macbook pros
-
Well, Apple doesn't mind that too much, Apple always does its iPod updates in September or October or so, because the back-to-school crowd helped clear the inventory of the older models. So this time its the same for the Mac notebooks.

To the OP: next Tuesday
-
I'm getting really tired of the wait to be honest. If there's nothing by early november, I'll be purchasing elsewhere.
I wont have a choice, I'll have to purchase something by november, and montevina is just what I need.
-
I think they will announce it the second Tuesday of September then they will ship begging of October, but that's just my guess.
-
Well, by November, wouldn't you rather wait until about February, when the Nehalem (i7) chips roll out? Nehalem is the major update, if you can wait for it it'll be definitely worth it!
-
ltcommander_data Notebook Deity
Has the Nehalem mobile schedule actually been announced? I think February would be too early anyways since mobile platforms seem to last 3 quarters and with Montevina in Q3 08, I don't really expect anything until Q2 09 at the earliest. And I thought there were actually rumours that Nehalem might skip mobile completely, and the 32nm Westmere might lead off with mobile chips in H2 09. -
does anyone think getting the current model will be a good idea, cause what im planning to do is wait till the new models come out im going to cook the graphics card by OCing it so they replace the laptop
doesn anyone think its possible, opinions?

The defect comes from heat cycling likely by fracturing. That requires repeated heating and cooling which means a long usage period rather than something you can recreate quickly. If you are just OCing you're likely just going to fry it and they'll likely be able to tell if you blow voltage regulators or scorch other components. They've also not officially confirmed which models are effected and even if the MBP was they'll likely just repair your existing MBP or give you the same model.
And it's dishonest of course.
-
Will Apple be adding the Bluray option ot their laptops...?
-
That remains to be seen, but my personal opinion is they won't, and instead they're banking on over-the-air HD downloads instead of plastic media.
-
I'm going over seas in november, so I need something to take with me.
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
probably won't happen within a year. -
Well I have been really enjoying my MBP purchased in May. I wish I would have made the plunge years ago. No crashes, no hassles everything just works for. So if the new one comes out. Well lets just say my wife will getting my current MBP. I also wish they would support BR. Since I don't always have access to high speed internet with international travel. Also I think it will most likely supported in Snow Leopard.
-
Rub it in why don't you.
-
I think now's a great time, especially with all the eBay deals. Just picked up a 2.4Ghz Penryn MacBook Pro brand new for $1500 delivered. Can't beat that with a bat!
-
Sept 15, 2008
-
me too, wonder if we bought from the same guy
-
Isn't Capella coming out next summer? Anyways I'm fine with the current MBP looks...just wondering whats going to be inside.
-
Calpella will be after Nehalem, that comes first!
-
I thought the mobile version of Nehalem was called Calpella?
-
Even if it was, the non-mobile version would come out first.
-
Calpella is the notebook platform, while Nehalem is the processor
. Nehalem will replace the current Penryn processors, while Calpella will replace the recently release Montevina platform
.

^Intel names can confuse anyone
