Yeah, I read about it not too long ago. I guess they are using something called a "QuickPath" to eliminate it and ...well here's a better explanation lol:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_QuickPath_Interconnect

You can read about Nehalem also here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nehalem_(microarchitecture)

But I'm fine with Montevina :D and knowing I'll have the last FSB laptop! That means around 3-4 years or however long later when I upgrade again I should see a pretty massive performance increase going from FSB to a then improved technology.

you guys should refer the discussion to as "montevina vs calpella" or "Penryn vs nehalem" not "montevina vs nehalem"

I don't really need a laptop, but I want one really bad. That, and that alone, is why I'm not waiting for Calpella. I'll be fine with Montevina. I'm even going to wait a few more months for Montevina after its official release. In a few years, I'll go for Calpella, even though I know that there will be the next best by that time.

Quick question that is somewhat related (i dont want to start a new thread for no reason)

I think we're all assuming that the Montevina based Macs are coming out sometime around August. If one needs a laptop for the fall (School), should one really buy the first generation Montevina laptops?

I've always heard that the earliest released machines will have problems, small or large, and i was thinking that i might as well as just buy one of the Macs that is out right now just to avoid this problem.

    Any thoughts?

sounds good. but i doubt apple would put something bad into one of their computers? it's not that big of a deal. not like anything can go wrong, its just a new GPU and a different FSB. they will more than likely put a different processor in there. the one thing that could go bad would be bad video drivers i think? idk though.

I was just thinking that they may do a full upgrade and new models usually have small glitches and need to be tweaked over the first couple of months after they are released.

I agree, the wait for Nehalem will definitely be worth it.

I always get confused by this statement. I understand Nehalem will be faster...but faster what? I mean for most users the CPU isn't the bottleneck at all right? Maybe I'm wrong (or just uninformed about the whole thing) but I just don't see a point in waiting when the next update is right around the corner. If you are thinking about purchasing a computer now, why would you wait for another (possible) year or however long? Why wait for Nehalem when the one after that will be even faster. Sure, maybe Nehalem will bring a big speed bump...but they AREN'T going to stop developing then or have 1-2% speed increases a year once Nehalem hits. I think people fail to realize that the one after the first gen Nehalem will be faster, and the one after that will be faster. Wait 5 years after Nehalem and tell me it's still really fast. I seriously doubt you'll say that about whatever computer you wait for since it hasn't happened since I first started putting together computers back on a 286 (when DOS was the operating system). Buy when you need one. If you can, buy right after an update on whatever one you pick. If you don't need one anytime soon, sure then wait for the one after this one. If you need a computer now, don't wait all the way until Nehalem hits... it's not like the ones out now are junk heh. Just my 2 cents, and I didn't mean to come off as offensive so I hope you didn't take it that way :D
