As inquired in the title, does anyone or did anyone catch any speculation or word on when apple is updating their macbook hardware to the montevina platform? (centrino2). I heard as soon as the 14th, I don't remember from where...
-

I heard it Oct 14 too, my friends.

Hopefully we know by Wednesday :|

We'll know by the 14th if it's the 14
-
Hmmm if apple doesn't announce an event in the coming few days will they even update the MB/MBP/other stuff on the 14th? Maybe silent update?

hopefully apple comes with a new MBP , I really need a new laptop but this time with fingerprint trusted security (or something better) so I can just touch the laptop for ANY password. Much more secure and easy and fast to use than other alternatives. Plus, nobody else has my fingerprint, I still have all my fingers attached.
And a docking station. I am sick of connecting and disconnecting that DVI brick that goes so hard in and out, plus the LAN, power, sound, mouse & keyboard, etc ...
please wake up and stand in front of others not behind .. look, with dell docking station I can connect 2 DVI/monitors plus 4 USB and tons of other stuff just by placing the laptop on the stand, please APPLE don't make me go buy a DELL !!! And their proper built docking station goes for less than $200, compared to the fake and stupid alternative built by some company for MBP for $3-400!!!
why can't they be straight forward and ahead of competition in all aspects, not just look and fashion!?!?!?!?!?!?? oh, and price! -
...because it's Apple and people are willing to pay extra for the logo. There is a bit of a myth about Apple products these days and that is commanding a premium. Simple as that.
-
but i agree with the docking station part
though technically, there is a docking station for the MBP that just requires a USB port. -
October 14th seems to be the generally accepted date in the rumour area, its a good date as well. But I will say there should be invitations out by tomorrow if there is going to be an event with the Mac updates, and I do expect an event if its more than just hardware speed bumps. So yeah, October 14th is a good date to expect!

in all seriousness, I HATE the apple fascism that you can run windows on a mac and vice versa, and I hate the fact that microsoft (the king of douche) has office and other apps for mac when apple won't even give windows Logic or Protools, i mean, I'm only buying a macbook because I have to... I've always hated Steve Jobbs, apple's ads and marketing campaigns. I hate the look of their notebooks, desktops and mp3 players. I sincerely feel that my intelligence is being mocked simply by having to buy a mac. That's how much I hate apple. I mean I've researched emulators and 3rd party mediums that might be able to run OSX Leopard on Windows, but the best comment I found was "got it to run, can't install any new programs or updates though..."

A quick 360 turn w
What's the reason why you have to buy a mac? Is it just for the two program? Isn't ProTool window compatible?
Anyways if it's really required(as in you can't get substitute software) for work or something then there's nothing you can do.
Apple does give windows iTunes, don't forget that ; ) but I don't think they're gonna port software that can effect the sales of their macs. Microsoft on the other hand, the more software it sells (copies of windows for mac, office for mac) the better. -
The only reason Mac has Microsoft program's is so Microsoft can make more money.
-
I've been hearing that the 14th is the likely day for an update and I can also tell you that if nothing comes out on the 14th then I will likely be buying something else on the 15th. There's been speculation since June and I'm really getting sick of it. I've never owned an Apple so maybe I'm just not used to waiting a long time without any official updates.

The reason Microsoft makes Office available for Macs was because it was mutually beneficial to do so. Office for Mac is profitable and I believe Microsoft's Mac Business Unit is actually part of their games and entertainment department so I wouldn't be surprised if they used Mac profits to offset XBox development losses. Supporting Mac no doubt also played favorably against the anti-monopoly investigations going on a while back. And it also ensured the continued use of Word, Excel, and Powerpoint as the standard formats in their mutual areas.
And it might be of little comfort to you, but it's ironic hearing a Windows user being forced to use a Mac for Mac software, whereas many Mac users are forced to use Windows for software compatibility. Like Entourage on Mac has always been spotty connecting to Exchange servers in corporations compared to Outlook. And many engineering software like Autocad isn't available on Mac -
How about iAtkos?

Well besides all that, yeah its for school, im entering a private college to study audio engineering and production, but besides that throughout all of high school (besides grade 12 where we used java on windows) I was working on macs for Perl in the mac command shell. I hate the OSX interface. Windows has always felt like "home" to me since the day I touched a pc as a kid. And also, I'm a hardware junkie. I love being able to buy the latest parts at the cheapest price I could get 'em for. It seems like Apple is forcefully blocking that relationship I have because of the fact that literally millions of people are buying macs for the apple name just like people buy nike airshock shoes that cost $300 when the same quality of shoe goes at winners for $30... It's ridiculous, and I realize microsoft has much more dominance on their own market but fortunately they only deal with software, Apple's got hardware as well. And the worst thing about it is that they already switched over to intel processors years ago, and still, they refuse to sell Mac software for windows platforms... It's just dumb. Because of people like me in the market demographic. Instead of going out of my way to boycott apple, I would gladly buy their OS with logic express preinstalled for $250, instead of literally paying over 10x that amount for a laptop that would cost $1000 less on a windows platform because pcs have the luxury of having hardware made by MORE THAN ONE COMPANY, therefore keeping a clean, fair, and beneficial game on the pricing of the products... Sorry if this rant didn't make 100% sense, I'm just a bit tired at this point.
EDIT: I found iAtkos qaz, that's the comment I got it from. They say you can't install updates or new programs on the OS, you work with just what you have. Kind of defeats my purpose here... -
Find an alternative to Logic and Protools then. Complaining isn't going to make your problems go away.

Shmurrr, that's no different than buying a windows based laptop. You can't upgrade the video card/motherboard on those, wifi, and most other things, just like a macbook.
So I really think your argument is invalid. I don't know about the mac pros, but my understanding is, you can upgrade the video cards in those. -

I've never had any experience with DIY notebooks, part of the reason I went to notebooks last year was I got tired of building my own for 9 years.
From what little I know, sagers and whitebooks are a little more flexible sure, but as a matter of personal opinion, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone (that's a totally different story and OT). -

so just make it a half inch thicker.... They have the room! its a 20"/24" rig for satan's sake! They can even save themselves even more room by slapping in some SSDs... Gaming Imac with a new design (possibly black on red/black on black) for $3000? Hell yeah im buying that.
EDIT: Think about it. The perfect form factor for LAN partys, you got everything inside the monitor. And I do credit apple's thinking as far as cable management, throw in a wireless keyboard and mouse and possibly a case to put everything in securely, and ohhhhhhhhhh yeahhhhhhhhhhhh....
Whens apple updating their hardware?
