I have read a lot about this "Smack Book" where you switch through desktops by hitting the side of your machine. What exactly does it do, why would it be usefull and where can I find it?

No it was not. SmackbookPro uses the SMS (sudden motion sensor) found in Macbooks, MBPs and some Powerbooks to send commands to OS X. The video on Youtube display a Virtual Desktop Manager, which allows you to have more than one desktop at the same time, being switched with Smackbook.

You can download it here, but the installation is not trivial:

Virtue Desktops ( http://virtuedesktops.info/ ) has SMS built in in its latest release, but it is still buggy.
