I am ready to pull the trigger on a 15 MBP but I dont know if I should get it from Apple or one of the resellers like MacMall or MacZone.
The price difference for the MBP itself isnt that great but the real savings comes in when you add bootcamp or parallels and a copy of XP Pro. I am not looking to do anything with XP on my Mac, but its sort of an insurance policy incase the VPN my company runs needs to have Windows, the tech guys arent sure since Ill be the first Mac user on the system.
So are there any reasons not to buy from anyone aside from Apple or are there any resellers who have a better reputation than others?
Also, I have a 3G iPod and if I remember correctly that generation still had two models one for mac and one for PC, am I right? If thats correct I am assuming I cant use my ipod with my MBP unless I am running XP as well, right?
Thanks for the help, I am pretty excited about making the switch.

I think most people buy directly from Apple, or more likely from an Apple Store.
But at the end, you still get the one-year warranty (or if you buy AppleCare, three-year), no matter where you buy (make sure the reseller is Apple Authorized!). -

I like MacConnection a lot. Great customer service and next day shipping available so I use them for most accessories or anything I need quick.
I prefer to get some things local so its easier to return or exchange, but if you are sure about what you want, its hard to go wrong with some of the deals to be had at MacConnection. -

I think the most trustworthy group to go with is portableone.

No, vaio_boi, the most trustworthy group is not PortableOne, but the Apple Stores themselves
. But I don't doubt the reputation or quality of PortableOne.
