I'm considering purchasing a macbook 2.0 ghz aluminum and I found that Amazon has it for $1,259. Anyone know of any reliable place that sells it cheaper? BTW, I live in the US.

For cheapest and MOST RELIABLE, I would say Amazon. Nothing better than the Apple Store directly, but Amazon is a great alternative.

macmall.com has the macbook for $1219.99 but that's after $50 mail-in-rebate which is a PITA. Amazon is a probably your best bet...you'll skip sales tax there too which isn't chump change neither ;)

Amazon is better than the apple store, at least in the US. Nothing beats tax free, even the student discount doesn't come close.

I bought mine from Amazon, and at the time, it had a $100 rebate. It came out cheaper than buying from Apple.com with the student discount (due to the tax).

This is the second thread today where you suggested someone commit fraud to obtain a lower priced notebook. Please don't offer such options anymore.

Actually if you're a college student or know one, I think university discounts are better and not the ones you get online. For some California universities, the price of the 2.4 Alu MacBook is $1349. I'm considering buying one too but the price is still high for me... In total I would spend around $1666 (tax and AppleCare included) for the laptop. Do you guys think it's a good deal? The 2.0 Alu MacBook is $1149 btw.

EDIT: These prices are in-store at the colleges

I think that's a great deal for AppleCare included for the 2.4 model. The 2.0 is also a great price, but go with whatever suits your needs or wants. But that's a good price for those machines. ;)

I am really close to buying the 2.4 MacBook for that price but I'm always worried that 2 months later a better option from Apple would come up. Like if I buy it and 2 months later a matte screen version comes out, I'll be pissed.

Oh, that's the only thing about technology. It changes so rapidly that nobody can keep up with it. I think that there will only be a matte screen on the 17", because there's got to be something to separate them. Sorry mate! :)
