Hi, I am going to buy a new laptop most likely MBP, I am now using Dell.
I know nothing about Mac OS.
I do not know which one to chose, I am going to use it for making lots of MS Office docs, PowerPoint presentations, etc, watching movies and saving and editing pictures.

I can afford MBP 17" 2.33, 2M RAM but, can you please advice me about which one of MBP to chose?
What programs do I need to buy other than Office for Mac 04?
Is it better to buy a MBP or to stick in to the windows ones?

    Thanks a lot
    LL

ok two things. you are going to burn a lot of money on that mbp when it sounds like what you really need is a macbook.

second- if you really want a macbook pro- you need to wait a week until wwdc and re-evaluate your options. they should be releasing a significant update VERY soon (at wwdc).

As masterchef said, the MBP is due for an update soon, so waiting a couple of weeks may be wise. In your case, you really have to decide how portable you wanna be vs. how much screen real estate you want. The tasks you speak of are not overly demanding, so a MacBook would work, but the screen is relatively small. So you may want to jump to the 15.4 MBP. If you do A LOT of photo editing, the the 17" may be the best choice.

Wait for WWDC like everyone has said.

IMO, no 17" is portable, Mac or PC. With that said, if you're even thinking about lugging your notebook around, stick with the 15". However, if this is going to be a desktop replacement, then go ahead and get the 17" version.

the 17" MBP's are definitely the most luggable desktop replacement ever, though.

but with what you are planning on using it for, I am sure you would be fine with a 15" mbp or even the mb, if you are ok with the smaller screen.

Many thanks ladies and gentlemen for the informative answers.
1- Do you expect that there will be a new generation of MBP after WWDC or just only upgrading issues?
2- Will the effect of WWDC07 going to be applied quickly overseas as well? I am living in Sydney/Australia.

    Yours,
    LL

the new mbp's were released today, before WWDC ;) the rumor sites were close, i guess. Hopefully you enjoy the benefits of that in australia?

get the 15" if you just have to have a macbook pro,

but still- i highly suggest getting a macbook. They are more portable and are more than powerful enough for what you need to do.
