My school laptop needs to be replaced
So, I decided that It was time to choose apple.
which of these two option is better?
Getting an iMac and an iPad
Or
Getting the Macbook Pro 2.53GHz?
p.s. I do still plan on using the school laptop for light school work, but majority of the usage will be transfered to one of these two options.

It all depends on what you want to do while you are portable. For my uses I would go with the iPad and iMac but someone else would opt for the MBP. If you went with the iPad what would you be expecting from it during use and are you comfortable typing on a touch screen?
-
COuld you please give some specs on the iMac and the MBP please....

Macbook. It's portable, versatile, can run windows and has a very good battery life. Does all of what the iMac can do and more than the iPad.
-
^ agree with 2.0, MBP 15 would be faster than the iMac as well, it would be stupid to go with any other option other than the MBP
-
what if i changed to the quadcore imac
2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
1TB Serial ATA Drive
8x double-layer SuperDrive
ATI Radeon HD 5750 1GB GDDR5 SDRAM
Apple Wireless Keyboard (English) & User's Guide
Magic Mouse -
I would also go for the MacBook Pro
-
-
I like the macbook pro.
-
MBP 15 all the way mate, unless the iMac comes bundled with a really hot blonde

I still think the iMac could be the better choice (depending on what you are using it for). Without knowing what you will need to do while mobile it is hard for anyone to give an accurate answer. If all you do is take notes while mobile, the MBP could be overkill for that. If you do something where a larger screen is better and it doesn't need to be mobile the 27" iMac would be better. If you need to run full programs while mobile, the MBP would be your choice.

Ok. Here is the situation. My school laptop is not working well. So I'm getting a replacement for it while It is getting fixed and then I will use both devices at school. Having two laptop idea is ok, but a desktop and a laptop idea is also ok.
IDK what to do? -
-
If you have two laptops for school, what'll happen is likely that one just sits at home while you take the other one around. In that case you may as well just get a desktop. I'd definitely try to swing for the Core i5 variant, though.
-
I would get the MBP.
Regardless of what you want kind of programs/games you want to run, there's nothing the iMac will handle that the MBP 15 will not.
If you need more screen real estate just get an external monitor. Desktops are pretty useless in college, laptops are the way to go.
What if you and your friends want to study at the library? What if you want to meet up at a starbucks to finish up an assignment? I seriously cannot see why anyone will get a desktop over a laptop in college, especially since laptops are very powerful now.
Just do yourself a favor and get the MBP instead of having buyer's remorse down the road. -
None of the above.
Buy a cheapo 13inch Unibody MBP on ebay, then either a refurbished 27inch Cinema display or Dell U2711 Monitor (the Dell is slightly better but the Cinema display is ~$100 cheaper and matches the Macbook). 13inch is great for portability and when hooked up to a 27inch monitor is pretty much an iMac. With your budget its probably better off getting a used Mac.
Any one suggesting a 15inch Macbook Pro as your main computer with a budget under $2000 obviously underestimates the advantages of an external monitor. -
for school, get a real laptop. You never know what kind of specialized software you might need access to or special websites that course materials might be housed on...which may be incompatible/not exist for a mobile platform like iOS.
consider a 13" MBP or an Air if you want a Mac. -
MBP 15, I got one last week, and it's working fantastically for school work.
one thing to note about the iPad is that you can't write on it (well you can but it's very slow and not good for written notes), if that's what you want to do maybe look into an HP touchsmart, they can be had for 900$.
I would definately recommend the MBP 15. even just the base model like mine really won't preform noticeably worst than the 2.53 model.
so really I actually suggest the base model MBP 15, 2.4Ghz, 320GB, 4GB etc.
Which Option should I go for?
