Is it that good? The 90 day default kinda sucks, but atleast there's a 1 yr warranty...
Is the Apple Care worth getting?
-
i wondered the same thing.....
and yeah, i got the apple care thing for my MBP -
Yes, it is worth its price. Apple's customer service is top notch.
I will get it for my MacBook, when I have some sort of money
.
-
you already have one!
get the MBP dude!!
I got the black MB today because i wanted the complete apple lineup
but that said...apple screwed by butt today by giving me the old MB and not the updated one (which i clearly asked for)
-
^ are you going to take it back? I got 3 year apple care for free!
-
yeah im gonna take it back tomorrow for sure.
howd u get it for free? -
I believe that Apple Care should also have accidental damage included.
-
I got it, because the battery will die, and you never know about displays. Three year's peace of mind is worth the $239 (edu price).
-
I got the Apple Care too. I think it's worth it from laptops as they can be a pain to fix. Also, I'd rather get the coverage from Apple than an extra warranty from Future Shop/Best Buy here in Canada. I know too many people that have had problems with those extra warranties

SaferSephiroth The calamity from within
You have a year to decide, so take your time and build up your money. I expect to purchase it for mine next year.
-
careful, thats whem murphy laws take over and your MBP hits the gutter!
-
Murphy's a noob. He's using a 3-dozer build
Anyway, I have a question:
If I buy apple care as soon as I bought the laptop, would it be 3 or 4 years of warranty?
If I buy it towards the end of the 1 yr default warranty, do I get 2 or 3 years of extended warranty?
Also does apple have accidental damage warranty? -
I made the text bold for readability, I'm not trying to be rude.
The AppleCare Protection Plan (APP) does not cover the battery unless it's defective. The following excerpt is from the APP Terms & Conditions, notice the "(ix) Consumable parts" exclusion.
The duration of coverage is determined from the purchase date of the covered item, not the Protection Plan. It's a 3 year maximum.
Apple does not offer coverage for accidental damages. See the above excerpt from the APP Terms & Conditions.
But don't take my word for it. Check the AppleCare Protection Plan website and read the AppleCare Protection Plan Terms & Conditions and contact Apple to make sure. -
It doesn't matter when you buy AppleCare for your Mac, it will extend the Standard Limited Warranty for two more years to make a total of three years warranty (remember, the first year is already covered by Apple's Limited Warranty with all new Macs and refurbished Macs).
And no, AppleCare unfortunately does not cover accidental damage. -
Just a thought for people who haven't purchased yet: most AmEx cards extend warranties on electronics purchases for up to an additional year. So buy the laptop with an AmEx and you have two years of warranty support.
-
How about visa? Where can I find information on different credit cards and benefits?
-
I've only seen this offered on AmEx, though some Visa or MC may offer it. There are probably websites that compare card benefits, it can get pretty confusing.
-
I never purchase extended warranties. Few reason...
For one, if I purchased an extended warranty on every computer or electronic device I've purchased, I would probably have spent enough to buy a new car (well not really but you get my point). Secondly, the quality of repairs through these "repair facilities" are pretty poor. I worked in computer repairs for about a year where most of our stuff was sent to a service center that does most of the major computer manufacturers repairs as well. After having inspected everything that left and that came back from their, I would never send my computer in. Now, obviously (or hopefully) Apple uses a higher quality repair facility with employees who treat the computers they work on with care, but I've heard enough stories of people sending in computers to Apple to get repaired that come back in worse condition. Thirdly, I usually buy a new computer every year or two. Out of every computer I've worked on, I'd say 95% of the hardware problems was the hard drive. Fortunately, replacing a hard drive and reinstalling an OS isn't what I would consider difficult so I can just do that myself.
Accidental damage is useful, however, if you plan move your laptop around a lot. Luckily, I have accidental damage coverage through my bank (USAA). From what I understand, Apple doesn't offer any accidental damage coverage.
If you ever do send in your laptop or computer for repair, make sure you take a LOT of pictures of your computer at every angle with a date stamp on it. Better to be safe than sorry. -
I'll see if I got a lemon or not.
I just bought my 2.4GHz MBP today, and am installing it now. I did not get Apple Care, but if it seems like I need it later in the year, I will deal with it then. -
I'm pretty sure the battery doesn't count as it's a "consumable". (unless of course it does within a really short period of time...)
-
Yeah, if the battery dies within spec, then its considered wear and tear and not covered by Apple's warranty
. But if its defective, like it dies really early, then Apple will replace it.
-
what DOES Apple care cover??
-
i always buy apple care. they seems to treat you better when you're getting support. the APP price for a laptop is very steep isn't it? thats because notebook are subjected to harsher use. 1 year warranty is not a good idea. at least 2 years for laptop is recommended.
-
Not to mention, Apple's always really good with brand new replacements and such. That really brings up the cost.
-
My school sells the apple care for $218
I think I am going to buy the notebook without it first, but I will get it before the 1 yr standard warranty expires.
Do you guys think this is a good idea? -
Yes, that sounds like a good idea to me!
-
I'm wishing I had bought mine...
I thought I bought my MBP in mid oct, not sept. So when I went to buy it early oct... no go
And I could really use some things fixed on mine before I try to sell it. -
Sold my Macbook just before the one year was up. Bought it for about about $150 more than I sold it (ed discount, free iPod which I sold, etc). Plan was to buy another when there was an update. So I'd get a brand new Macbook with no wear and tear and another year's warranty.
Not impressed with the updated Macbook or the fact that they're gouging Canadian customers by charging $250 more than American customers. So I bought an Acer 5100 for what it would have cost me for the Applecare and I'm sitting it out until Apple gets its act together. So needless to say, but I'll say it anyway, Applecare is not a good value unless you hate selling your old one. -
Yeah, that sounds good!
-
how did you do that? that sounds mighty tempting
one notebook every year! where did you sell your notebook?
yeah, why not. just remember to buy and register it before the one year warranty expires. also, remember that postage takes time (if you plan to do it that way). of course you can also do it online. just buy and register it 2 months before the warranty expires, to avoid any nasty surprises. -
Sold it on Craigslist for $850cdn (was the base model). I calculated the cost with taxes of buying another under the same deal (ed discount, "free" ipod, etc) to be around $300. More expansive than Apple Care I suppose but then you get a new updated system and one years warranty every year (and better resale value).
Who got the 3 yr apple care?
