I am just curious about how many people here switch from Window to Apple because of Iphone.

I used to be a window user, but after receiving an Iphone as a gift and like it so much that I gave OS X Leopard a try and like it.

Pretty much I gave apple another thought because how much I was impressed with my Iphone.

Anybody else shared the same experience?

That's known as the "halo effect" :p. A lot of people gave Mac OS X a chance because of their good experiences with the iPods and now the iPhone. I was one of them...I didn't really consider anything Apple until I tried out my friend's iPod Mini...and then two months later I got the first generation iPod Nano. I wanted a Mac, but I couldn't afford a computer in general, but thankfully I won a MacBook in a contest, and it all went from there!

I had a 12.1" dell that I loved and purchased because I needed and ultraportable, but found a tad small and hated the installed OS (vista). I fooled around in Ubuntu for a while, and then decided to get a macbook because of the features in the OS. It was a great decision, though I still recommend XP and Vista to some users, depending on the tasks that they need to perform.

Unfortunately, its a British Columbia-only contest, sorry! It was a website-design contest open to high school students (Grades 8-12, ages 13-18) and the best website from each grade got an Apple MacBook. I won for my grade :p.

It wasn't the iphone that convinced me. It was Linux. I'd used Linux since 1998 and liked the fact it was so stable. When OS X came out with Unix underneath the hood, I started salivating. I'm embarrassed that I waited so long. I didn't go "all in" for OS X until this past spring. I had dabbled in Mac as soon as it became "affordable" and grabbed a Mac Mini. But I waited until I absolutely couldn't stand the endless driver, virus and other Windows issues in my house before going "all in". I wish I'd done it sooner.

As for the iPhone, I'm fairly tied to Verizon right now and have had mixed results with GSM in my area so I'm in no hurry to give Att a try. The last time I tried GSM was on Tmo and it sucked big time. If I could be assured of getting a signal, I bet having an iPhone would be nice, though. I'm using Palm right now and I dread looking at the blazer browser. I could get used to safari in a hurry. Of course, I would want to bring over my apps and data without having to leave all the data behind. Bible reader is one that I'm sure will be released for iphone if it isn't out there already. But then there's apps like resco idguard that will probably take a while to become available on iphone. This is one thing that is missing in the whole mobile me infrastructure: a password safe. I wouldn't want any schmuck who stumbles across my mobile me password to also get access to all the other passwords I've ever used. Now that's worse than having your wallet stolen

Perhaps my decision was mildly affected by iphone. The Apple store had less traffic than sharper image and brookstone before iphone came out. Now it's almost always full of people. It definitely makes a difference when there's excitement in the air but you can still get individual attention. A lot of individual attention in an empty store isn't quite the same. I guess when I think about making the switch in the middle of a crowded room, the thought comes to mind that all these other people are doing it and if not now, when? So while I'm not an iphone customer, I can honestly admit that the iphone and ipod halo had some effect on my decision on when to convert to OS X. The halo affect didn't have nearly as much an influence as my distaste for all things windows, but perhaps it provided a nudge to make the decision this year rather than keep fence-sitting.

So far, my only apple products have been iPhones. I bought the first gen one after it reached $399, and I bought the 3G version last week. However, I don't think I will ever think I will own an apple computer without the need for work, as I am a Linux guy.

Not to knock your post but the topic of discussion is about people who switched from Windows to the Mac OS due to their iPhone purchase. It's not about people who bought an iPhone but have no interest in a Mac. :p

I switched because of the iPhone. Got my iPhone in September of 2007, and then got the MacBook Pro in October of 2007. I'd had some bad XPS M1330 experiences back then, and said I'd had enough! Got my MacBook Pro and will never go back to Windows for my main system. Vista is just a complete turd.

You can count me in as one of the people who switched over because of my iphone. I was sick of waiting around for apps to come out for windows. Also the face that windows vista sucks and crashes like no other also convinced me to switch over.

I'm about to go through the opposite myself; having switched to mac and love it so much that I'm seriously considering getting an iPhone just to complete the package; I already have a .mac subscription too...I mean, mobileme (.mac is still a better name than mobileme :p )
