I assume Windows must have been a typo. Then which OS's are we comparing?

I wouldn't go that far. I've worked since I was 14 to pay for everything I've got (including all of my Macs that I've had), and I currently make $25,000 a year (not much). I more or less fit the "been to prison" profile than the "owns a Mac" profile you defined.

But I still prefer Macs for what I do, and unless things get really bad on the Mac OS, and really good on Windows, I think I'll stay on this side of the fence.

Website design on Mac OS X is virtually no different from Windows. The only thing, and it may be big to some, is the fact that Internet Explorer has no Mac version, so you can't test compatibility directly on OS X. There are Firefox plugins and such though.

As for going green, its not like most corporations tried either...of course I agree, it doesn't take the blame away from Apple. Ironic that Al Gore is on the Board of Directors :D. But I've heard it was him who eventually got Apple to go green, so kudos.

And I guess what you guys don't remember is...Apple's a corporation. Its not your best friend. Its a company who sells products to make your money. Exxon Mobil makes a profit of $40 billion a year, complain to them first :p.

And I really don't like that stereotype. I've seen people act that way, but to say "Apple users" is generalizing everyone. I don't act that way, nor do the majority. There's fanboys in any and every category, Windows included.

What are you talking about? I run a program on my laptop which monitors CPU usage and Windows most certainly does not use 99% of the CPU unless I have given it a CPU intensive task like a computer game or a benchmark measurement program. If you do run such programs, it is indeed going to use all of the CPU -- if I only wanted to use 20-30% of my processor, I would not have bought something twice as powerful.

In fact, the Santa Rosa platform is actually more clever than what I've described: it dynamically lowers the clock multiplier when the CPU is not in use to save power and generate less heat. I do not know how the Mac works or how hot it gets so I'm not going to comment on that, but please refrain from making assumptions about systems you know little about.

Perhaps you can find some more objective comparisons at this site...
    http://www.macvswindows.com/index.php?title=Main_Page

I tend to be a little less than objective in my comparison of Mac and Windows after years of dealing with Windows issues from three perspectives: that of an end user (3.11 - XP), that of an admin (3.11 - 2003), and that of a software developer (3.11-XP). I bailed on Windows just as Vista was launched and every indication is I made the right move at the right time for the right reasons. I did find a humorous pic and decided to share it here...

You got adium for msn messenger. Flip 4 mac + perian + quicktime and you can play pretty much any video file. Itunes is better than winamp IMO

What are you using to measure the temps of your macbook?
How can you not have heard of the two finger right click??

Quicktime still can't handle matroska videos properly.

    SMCfancontrol for temp monitoring.

And, I did know about the two finger right click, but it's stupid and unuseable. Why not just use a second button?

for matroska files, I've found that mplayer works very well. I would still prefer media player classic though.

Doesn't VLC play matroska files as well?

MPlayerOSX, VLC and Perian all have some variety of issues with mkvs on OS X. Whether it's features missing (such as selecting with subtitle track to play) or even something as simple as seeking to a different location, the Mac has no comparable product to the CCCP.

Sorry forks, i tried to swtich over to a Mac, i really want to, but i cant seem to do it. Its not because of their price or hardware

The main issue with me is software. Macs doesnt give you a wide range of choices like Windows. And I personally dont like Apple software for Windows. Such as Itunes and Safari and even their hardware (as mentioned above) like their ipods, mighty mouse and their Macbook Air [which is suppose to be an ultra portable??]. However i do like their Iphone, Cinema Displays and the iMac.

I havent got any issues with Vista so far and from what i read HERE third party software isnt all that solid. And the simplest tweak with OSX can cause errors throughout the whole system.

Im still not 100% sure, maybe ill change my mind the last second of purchasing a laptop. Or wait until "Cougar" comes out by then Macs should have more apps. :)

And by the way its not one of those sites where you guys share rapidshare links with .rar password files.

    Thanks for all the help!!

Yes it does. VLC works pretty well with most stuff but has horrible subtitle support.

Every OS has some things that you dont like but OSX has the least if you ask me. The think I hate about macs is how late they respond to mice other than that its one of the greatest safest OSesssss.
Windows on the other hand is so much worse if you ask me. So many flaws, its not even funny.

i have actually gotten a lot of feminine attention due to my macbook pro.

i don't know why you would think that an aluminum brushed metal machine would be designed for girls in particular. i think it attracts girls, but its definitely for guys if anything. more likely its mutually appreciated.

unless you are talking about the white macbook in particular. i could at least see where you are coming from.

BUT tons of guys at my college (and across all colleges) use that machine in particular. its an iconic and universally appreciated machine. i think if anything, that guys using macbooks get more attention from girls because i think girls consider apple laptops less geeky than a pc machine.
