    Hi,

I just installed a clean copy of Snow Leopard but now I don't have permission to access my Time Machine backups, the drive itself shows all the dates of the backups like this: http://img31.imageshack.us/i/screenshot20091227at443.png/

But say when I try to open any given folders inside the backup it says I don't have permission to do so: http://img27.imageshack.us/i/screenshot20091227at438.png/

When I enter Time Machine it shows the folders as empty with the red no access icon on desired folders.

I need serious help here as the backups are very dear to me, any help will be gratefully appreciated. Thanks!

is ur backups in a single file , or u mean by ur backups u just copied ur files there, if u copied ur file their , easiest way to get them without the hassle of permissions is download final ubuntu for mac live cd , run from the cd and copy the files from the time machine to ur Hard , OOPS if all ur partitions are HFS ( mac partition ) u ll not be able to write on them , so connect an Fat32 hard disk or NTFS hard or flash ,
N.B : this is a work around , i think there is a better solution

you did a standalone install.... an upgrade wouldn't have had the problem.

Its a simple permissions problem, just change the permissions on everything in the drive and should be able to read it.

you can change permissions in Get Info, on a folder, and choose to apply to all enclosed items.... that would probably give you access to it all, but would mess it up if you still wanted to use it as a time machine backup to do a system restore or still back up to.... you'd probably have to copy off what you wanted and reset the drive to be a new Time Machine drive.
