Anyone know why High School students can't get discounts? Or can they and I'm just reading it wrong? I'd love to get a student discount or a free Ipod, But I'm only in grade 12 and I guess High school students have lots of money, so I can't save a couple hundred dollars.
-
Anyone can get student discount if you purchase online, they don't check.
-
Can you get the free ipod?
-
Depends which education "discount" you want. If you want the free ipod, you can get it. But if you want the couple hundred off the price of a Mac, you need a valid student ID #.
-
Its a good question, there's no real reason why not, Apple just chose not to include high school students into the promotion. And to Chrysaor...that's not very ethical
, plus in fact in Canada, you need to enter a Student ID from the university/college you are attending to qualify!

For $50, I'll buy the laptop you want and resell it to you at the same price.
I'm pretty sure that's legal. -
-
highschool kids dont need laptops like students at college do.
-
find a friend in college and ask for his/her info. Or just make it up . No way they check!

I did not need to give a student ID number for my college. I got 200 bucks off my brand new macbook Pro (direct). Would of been 2300 I got it for 2100.
I am actually signed up with a college so I just put the info in and it came up saying my school had a custom apple store.
Im in California if that matters. -

yeah i actually agree with roor on that. i mean, if you leave it at home and just use a laptop instead of a desktop, thats one thing.
but bringing a laptop to school is distracting.
in higher ed, you write papers weekly and several of my classes were computer classes and required a laptop.
its not that you can't make good use of a laptop in high school, but its definitely not a necessity. -
Most colleges these days require their students to have a laptop as part of some of the requirements before matriculation (mine does). Most high schools, probably all, in fact, do not require students to have a laptop and with most families these days having at least a desktop, high school students don't *need* a laptop. In other words, they aren't required to have laptop so Apple is probably more sympathetic to college students who are.
I definitely think that college students use their laptops a lot more than high school students (this is coming from a person who has had a laptop since middle school). While it is extremely convenient to have a laptop in high school, it certainly isn't necessary like it is in college. Just my two cents. -
Okay just to get this straight, I can get the free ipod deal but I can't get the discount? I am from Canada. Also, My brother was going to Uni, but he is taking some time off, does anyone know if the student ID has to be current?
-
you can get both the ipod and the student discount.
and I am guessing your bro's student id will still work, because I've been accepted to universities I will not be attending but they have given me student id's which I tried using, and they do work with their respective apple stores. -
Okay so aslong as the student ID works, I can get both? Okay that's good.
-
agree with roor, chef and inky, hs students do not need lappys. you can take as many ap classes as you want and still theres no need. however if you are taking special courses like drafting or c# it can be convenient.

High school students DO need A computer, whether it be a laptop or a desktop, you do need a computer, but apple does not off student discounts for any of there products to high school students.
-
14 years ago when I was in the high school we weren't even allowed to use calculators
-
im surprised no one has used this argument:
in HS, your in a centralized building. if you REALLY need to use a computer between classes, you go to the computer lab.
in college, most of the time your classes are spaced out and not in the same place, soy our running around place ot place, and therefore, you could use your laptop in between classes.
also, in HS, you live at home (most likely) where you should have a family computer (like a desktop) to do your homework. in college, your in a dorm, where you need to have a laptop so you can do work. additionally, its not like ion HS you need to go to your friend's dorms and such to do group projects, or meet in a "lounge" area, whereas in college you do.
High schoolers can claim all they want that they need laptops, but you don't. it's a luxury. soon enough, kids in junior high will say they need laptops for their classes. -

I suppose it also depends on what subject you're studying, whether you need a laptop or not. As an undergrad I didn't have a laptop, and certainly didn't need one. The only reason why I need a laptop as a graduate student today is that I need something portable to take with myself back home for the summer break. (I'm in the Humanities; so, the primary use of a computer is essay-writing and e-mail for me.)
Otherwise I'd go for an iMac, rather than a MacBook.
Increasingly, college students seem to prefer taking notes in class on their laptops. While there are distinct advantages to that (such as: not paying for notebooks, being able to search through your notes for an exact phrase, etc.); I personally find it very distracting, although I type rather fast.
Wow; talk about off-topic. -

Why can't AARP members get free iPods?
-
Why should Apple be any different? -
Another way of looking at it *could be* those who reach college or university level deserve a discount from Apple since they're somehow better than those who drop out from high school, this in some way is motivating every student to complete high school and go to university, good degree and higher education leads to better jobs and pay.
-
I just want to say one thing, I have a learning disability, in grade 9 I was giving a laptop on loan from the school, I used it every day and It help me a lot with all my classes, But it later died and they never did anything to fix it. Just because some ones in high school does not mean they don't need a computer, A LOT of the work you do in high school the teacher wants typed up, or you have to do research at home, or something to do with the computer. Having a laptop that you can take to school and take home helps a lot. For people that said you need a laptop for collage/university, well they didn't need them 10 years ago. They used a pen and paper to take notes, they wrote up there projects. But they use them now because it helps them. All students should be given discounts, not just collage/university students. Computers are essential in this day and age.
Well, I guess I got a answer, this thread can get locked now, it's just causing problems. -

My son needed to keyboard from late grade school on. And I agree that a computer is an integral part of any education these days and has been for quite a number of years. Student discounts are fairly common. As to whether Apple would extend that to the iPod, who knows?
-
seshan have you considered tablet pcs for notetaking? or you want only a laptop?
-
it's pretty obvious high school students aren't real students.
-
Even if you're not a college student, you can get a student discount. Even elementary school students can get student discount. All ya gotta do is claim that you are homeschool. I'm homeschooling my kids this summer. That counts.
-
-
there you go. i bought an imac for my children under the homeschooling program. -
Do they check eligibility?
" You qualify as a homeschool if you:
* Provide a complete school curriculum for the children you homeschool
* Meet the homeschool (teaching) requirements set forth by your appropriate Department of Education "
Also I couldn't find that on the Canadian site. -
nah, they didn't check in my case.
Why can't high school students get student discount/free ipod?
