It depends.
Installing all the print drivers takes up a decent amount. 2 gigs I think.
The xcode thingie takes up another 2 gigs I think. GarageBand takes up quite a bit.
Overall, the install can be 10 gigs or more I believe.

I see...I may have to opt for the 120GB then...

my experience says to get as big as drive as you can. especially in a notebook since if you run out of space, you need to use external drives, which can be a pain.
but then i also have alot of media ( around 25+ gigs) -
Actually, using external hard drives are quite a delight
.
My past experiences with external hard drives are quite good.
I would personally opt for a 2.5" External Hard Drive for a notebook.
You wouldn't want to compromise the portability of the notebook with a bulky External Hard Drive, would you?
I'd recommend the Western Digital Passport External Hard Drive.

But I whole heartedly think everyone should get one as they are good backup devices. Or if they have the money, a NAS drive. -
Um when 60% of reviewers rate it a 5/5 and 40% of reviewers rate it a 1/5, I kind of get concerned. Seriously. That rarely ever happens.

Well, that is quite true. It would either be quite slow or battery consuming.
But, as long as your using the external hard drive for storing important data or also multimedia content, and don't use it for running games directly right off it, I'm sure the slowness shouldn't be that much of a hassle.
I remember I used to have a 2.5" external hard drive with USB 1.1
And that was seriously unbelievably slow.
It took somewhat around 30 mins to transfer a 1gb file.
That was definately unbearable. But with USB 2.0 and decent RPMs, it should work great as a storage device.
This is the external hard drive I was looking for much earlier.

Why certain people rather go for an Apple than a regular PC?
