Not sure if we had thread something like this....but remember first time you decided to go for mac? Why did you choose mac?

it was the most sleek and good looking laptop that I could find.

1) Hardware - Apple spends the time designing, building, documenting, and supporting their products. Might not be bleeding edge specs but works reliably, efficiently, and gives great service life.
2) Software - OS - Fewer problems and less maintenance. Applications - simpler, more consistent, less buggy, less bloat, cost less, friendlier licensing.
3) Support (except for MobileMe) - Talk to someone informed, articulate, understanding, and helpful on the phone. -
Because I was fooled by the media and other people

I liked the design, the hardware, but mostly because of the great customer service I had heard about. After the fiasco with my Dell, and Dell refusing to fix it, I decided to go with Apple, and I'm glad I did.
-
you know why I got it..I just happened to saw Steve's iphone launch video...just fell in love with him and his vision and I decided I will buy an apple one day
-
Because I like anything shiny and made by Apple.
-
because of its good build quality as compared to dells, hp's, etc.. also because of their durability and reliability and also because i was impressed by the ipod.

Got an iPhone and loved the way it was designed/worked. Was always curious about Macs and when I saw the MBP unibody (late 2008), it was the nicest laptop design I had ever seen...so took the plunge...and haven't looked back!

Well I was looking for a notebook, I was looking at the Dell XPS 1530, I waited months for it to go on sale because I was not going to pay the price they wanted, for a dell, (I had horrible experiences with my last Dell notebook), reading the dell forum and all the problems it had and that it seemed to be a luck of the draw to not get one messed up with one of the many problems it had. At the same time I was having problems with windows and was really sick of it. So I'm like "F*ck this I'm getting a Mac." Did some research and waited for the unibodys to come out, then I bought it.

Just had some money to burn, and steve jobs looks like a nice guy, so I gave him my business
On a more serious note, it's the iphone that really got me into all this mac os craze.
I've used a LOT of phones, from nokia, to sony ericsson, touch screen, music phones, etc , but I never found a phone, even with all its downside, that works as well as iphone. Then the 2.5ghz macbook pro early 2008 goes on sale for CAD$1600 after the release of UMBP, but eventually I replaced my mbp with umbp.
I'm not a fan boy of any OS, I really can't wait for windows 7, but I do really enjoy mac os x so far. -
I'll try to repost without the dupes!
The reason I got a mac was because I was sick of windows (spyware/viruses/OS Slowdown/defragmentation/microsoft being microsoft) and I knew that OS X was based on UNIX.
Very happy with the purchase! -
My girlfriend got me into Macs. She has a 2.5 GHz early 2008 MBP that i used to play with whenever I went to go and see her. Well recently my toshiba laptop started crapping out. I started looking for a new laptop. I decided not to get a Mac because it was too expensive, but I couldn't find a notebook that compared looks wise. I wanted thin, and not plastic. Luckily I made a deal to where I could get my Mac for about 1300, and now here I am. Im pretty happy so far

I got my MBP (early 08) because, of the handful of models my employer was going to give me, it seemed to have the best build quality. I've never had major problems with Windows - just a bunch of minor annoyances. So I thought I'd give OS X a spin. Have to say I prefer it to Windows.
Will I replace it with another Mac when I order my new machine (new job) next week? Probably not. Though they've been dealt with reasonably efficiently, I've had more hardware problems with the MBP than with either previous laptop.
I've also had software issues: MS Office database became corrupted, crashing Entourage and crippling the other apps. Mac Office being inferior to start with doesn't help matters any - but I'd expect nothing less from Microsoft publishing software for Apple. Have also had persistent, annoying font problems, despite not installing any (unless you count LaTeX/TeXShop) which are still not entirely resolved. Had to jump through several hoops to get my personal laser printer to work (the thing isn't even that old).
I understand that aluminum conducting heat may actually be good for interior components, but I don't particularly enjoy having a laptop which I could flip upside down and use to cook an egg.
Don't get me wrong, there are lots of things that I absolutely love about my MBP. But my experience has hardly been uniformly positive. It hasn't been bad by any stretch, but it also hasn't lived up to billing as the no-hassle option that "just works."
Edit: Having said all that, I wouldn't talk anyone out of purchasing a Mac. They're great. I probably just got unlucky, and my inner statistician knows better than to generalize from one observation. -
For the looks. If the same design was available for a PC I'd buy it.
-
I've told this story before
, I won this MacBook actually, in a website design contest! It was open to high school students...and I entered and won

To escape Windows Vista and all the problems I had with it. Sometimes it seemed I was spending more time doing maintenance on my PCs than I was using them. OSX has given me the opportunity to simply enjoy using my system again.

I bought my Macbook Pro for a few reasons. One is because I got frustrated trying to get Hackintosh working, but I liked OS X. The second was because iTunes for Windows is a terrible, terrible piece of software, but I wanted a hassle-free way of working with my iPod. The third was a general curiosity about the Mac hardware and software.
I'm selling my Macbook Pro tomorrow, and I have a new one on order. This time I'm going to tinker with Boot Camp, and I may make an actual "attempt" to make this my primary laptop. I doubt I will even make any attempt to switch to OS X all the time (I'm too reliant on Windows-specific apps), but I will certainly dabble in it and see how much I can do in it. -

With windows, it varied, but it was typically two to three months and I'd have to reinstall cause files would mysteriously start getting corrupted, or it would be a registry problem etc. It was a common problem with XP way back for me, that it would suddenly stop booting one day, because this or that file or dll was corrupt or missing. So I've experienced both sides of the fence. -

I was given a Mac as a present.
-
Looks awesome, and OSX is awesome.
Just pure awesome really. The liquid kind even. -
I got a Mac (15" UMBP) because I loved the design and build quality. The only other laptop I was considering would have been a Dell, and they didn't have any laptops that felt as solidly built as the MacBook Pro. I was really tired of the plastic feeling of a laptop. I also liked how there were Apple stores around that I could set appointments to in case my laptop ever failed. Lastly, I got a pretty good deal on eBay for my UMBP! I paid $1540 after $200 instant cashback. The previous owner also purchased the 3-year AppleCare warranty, which was a complete shock to me since he didn't tell me on the listing.
Another point that has been mentioned before is the high resale value of these laptops. I came from a 15" MBP 2.33 Ghz Core 2 Duo that I purchased off eBay for 350. Spent another $150 or so fixing it, and sold it for $920 in order to fund for my UMBP. It was pretty unbelievable that it sold for that much even though it was over 2 years old.
Until a reputable PC manufacturer can compete with Apple's build quality (sleek, slender, smooth), there's really not much competition for them.
That said, a Mac laptop isn't for everyone. As nicely polished as the Leopard OS is, gaming is a joke on this OS. I don't game much, but when I want to play TF2 with my friends, I have to boot into Windows in order to do so. That's probably my biggest qualm with Leopard. -
Been with mac's since my first laptop, the Powerbook Duo 230c. With its if I remember correctly 8.5 or 9 inch screen, LOL!!
Back then I hated that size screen, now it's popular (netbooks lol!).
But I have been on both platforms for awhile. Majority of my PC's being home built desktops. Mainly for the games, when I like to get stuff done I prefer my mac (oddly most of my laptops have been mac).
Heck i'm not even that old (25) but i've been with macs going on 20 years, PC has been almost 22 years on my first computer, Commdore 64.
But to answer it has, and always will be for me the feel of the MacOS. I just enjoy it thoroughly. I currently am running a 2009 White Macbook, only complaint is game performance but I hadn't expected too much. To my surprise it plays a decent enough Team Fortress 2 in bootcamp to get by on my standards.
Apple switching to intel making me able to run windows is a godsend. Now I can do the few things in windows I could not do on the MacOS. Thats pretty much it, it's all the OS for me -
Why did you get mac?
