He's rich enough to dress however he wants.
-
He's dressed like a typical engineer.
-
No offense, but... who cares?
And besides, he could do far worse than a turtleneck and a decent pair of jeans. -

He's the spitting image of an Apple CEO alright.

Actually, Billions of $ $ dollars move according to Steve Job's itching left nut or one too many rumored coughs or sneezes. Consumers don't care, I'm sure. Apple is the opposite of Microsoft in some ways, no one would care if Bill Gates retired, but Apple would be cut into its core if something happened to Jobs (Love my own fruity puns lol). -
I'm with you on that one. If Steve Jobs started wearing a Bicycle Helmet around town, I'm sure people will start blogging about it like it's the next trucker hat faze.

I've seen that (people too lazy to take it off when they go into a store!)... but there is always an actual bicycle somewhere nearby (you would hope). -
I would say Steve Jobs is the reason why Apple has become what it is today.. his keynotes are somewhat impressive to the majority of the viewers. To me, they seem a bit redundant.
From Maddox: "He claimed that the phone was three devices in one: an iPod, a phone, and an "Internet communications device." Oooh, an Internet communications device?! AWESOME!" -
He dresses rubbish so that people won't gawk at his good looks and instead pay more attention to his words and the shiny new iPod in his hands.
-
I think he's dressed okay. Nothing wrong with jeans + turtle neck.

His jeans are terrible and he doesn't a wear a belt while his shirt is tucked in. That is the worst look you can do with Jeans.
Those raggedy old New Balance shoes are the turd on top the cake, so to speak. -

True, unless you end up gawking at his attire instead of paying attention to his shiny IPods.
-
Why do you put so much emphasis on how "poorly" somebody is dressed? I sure don't.
Yesterday, I wore my most comfortable pair of Dickies pants that are about 7 years old, have a few holes, and are very torn up at the bottom. (All of my work pants are what I wear when I'm not working too). I was also wearing a torn up GG Allin shirt that has so many holes in it, and it should probably get thrown away.
Sure, I'm not a millionaire that could replace all of my clothing with a quick visit to the mall, but it's comfortable, and I like what I was wearing. Apparently so does Steve Jobs. -
I m not sure, what would you prefer. something like this?
-

I sure hope you're not a CEO either. -
Ever been to the silicon valley or had a friend/family member that works there? A lot of the engineering nerds dress this way--they're not overly concerned with appearances. Kinda like how you see us med students/doctors/nurses walking around in public with scrubs on (something I never do and will never do). -

That may be your style, but it is not appropriate for a CEO.
Even fake Doctors looks would work if you had wear to Jeans...
(Joker, is this what you're going to look like in 15 years
)

I see people at my gym working out in Scrubs and it is entirely inappropriate. The Gym is already THE most unsanitary place, and you are bringing more crap from the hospital? UGH.
Yea, you can dress however you want in your own home or with friends or whatever, but Apple is the pinnacle of appearance. Apple SELLS and MARKETS primarily on appearance. It is just ironic that Steve Jobs doesn't care about his own attire, when most of Apple Consumers are dressed to the brim in designers. -
you have waaay tooo much free time to think about stuff like that. lol. Would you mind doing some of my reports for work then? lol
-
I would disagree that Steve Jobs does not care about his appearance. On the contrary, his image is casual and nerdy, and appeals to the core market that Apple is trying to connect to. Compare his look to the Mac v. PC ads...Apple is actively playing on the perception of their customers as cool and casual, while PCs are stuffy and overdressed. I am not saying that Jobs' appearance is a marketing ploy, but that it is something their advertising firm has picked up on and exploited.

Frankly I'm surprised medical professionals are allowed to get away with it. Just to give you an idea of the crap I've seen, I was in OR during my 5th semester assisting with removing a ruptured ectopic pregnancy. The doctor was pulling out all this clotted blood and it was splattering all over our scrubs (hence my gaming tag dirty scrubz). After our shift in the OR was over, I changed my clothes and headed out to get some food and what did I see? One of the nurses that assisted in the procedure out in public eating at a restaurant in the same scrubs..nasty. -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Oh. I thought you were just referring to how bad you are.
ZING. -
I dunno. I'm a med student also, and some people definitely do have less-than-nasty things to do in a day and choose to wear scrubs while doing it... but yeah, an ectopic followed by soup and salad? Delicious.
-
Pretty much. I'm sure Steve Jobs chooses to dress like that for marketing purposes to maintain the Mac image. Similar to how Steve Ballmer went berserk jumping on stage, showing Microsoft as some sort of an energized firm. When Bill Gates was there, everyone had the image of Microsoft as this big-time serious looking firm. But Ballmer I think is also trying to change that, since he's definitely more charismatic than Gates.
Its all marketing... -

That's not what I was contending. Mac is CLEARLY all about image and appearance, but Steve Jobs himself does not put that forward.
There is a huge difference between how the Mac guy is dressed and how Steve Jobs looks (in the two photos on page 1). -
Why does it matter? Let the man dress however he wants. Is his dress style causing you any personal harm or daily repercussions (other than self-induced)? NO!
Seriously, with all the things wrong in the world, THIS is what concerns you? -
Yeah, I think this is a little off the realm of Apple discussion - yes Steve Jobs is a big part of Apple and its identity, but fundamentally this forum is about Apple products, and yes there is more to Apple than Steve Jobs, so enough analysis about his style please
.
Why does Steve Jobs look (dress) like crap?
