So far, the MBP17 is ahead on both DOW2 and BFBC2 by a good 10-20%

    nice comparisons ninja2000

been enjoying my MBP 2011, but mostly just playing sc2 on it. Always liked the M14x. How do you like it compared to the MBP? Not just gaming, but daily use etc?

You will need to do it at one of the predefined settings anyway and 1920x1080 isn't a benchmark resolution.

Wow. Those benchmarks really are in line with each other. And the biggest benefit to running the Mac for gaming versus the m14x is the Mac runs at full speeds when pulled from power. The m14x throttles gpu down.

Great that's what i am talking about i will post some other benches for the 6750m later but don't have a m14x so they will be one sided.

Vantage scores are everywhere tbh. I was getting ~6700 with a modest 20% OC.

I'm more curious on the gaming benchmarks. Screenshots?

@aznguyen316 - I love them both for different reasons. I bought the MBP17 for my xcode work and the machine is amazing but it is so expensive and pretty large so I dont want to carry it to work everyday. The M14x was half the price, is a great form factor and has amazing speakers, I find myself actually listening to music on it at work. I love having both but if I were to choose just one it would be the MBP. There are just certain things that make it a cut above:
the magsafe adapter, the build quality, having full control of the fans, being able to undervolt the gpu etc etc.

Bill - What would you like screenshots of? Did you see the shots of BC2 and DOW2 I posted?
    I have:
    SC2, SupComm2, DOW2, BFBC2, MOH 2010, BOPS, MW2 Empire TW, Dirt 2.

Yeah... but I was hoping you could post an FPS log instead of an in-game still from different positions.

Just run through the intro with monitoring log in the background, then ss the log. I know ATI tools has something like that, not sure about Nvidia.

Dirt 2 and SC2 (albeit slight CPU discrepancy).

hmmm, OK I will take a look. The DOW2 gives a good indication of performance as it was a benchmark at identical settings, res and both had the cpu capped at 2ghz

ninja do you have Crysis 1 its giving me problems in the 64bit benchmark :(. The game shuts down on 0.920v "800/850" after a while and i have to up the voltage to 0.980v for the same 800/850, this was when running from the battery.

When running from the power adapter it runs fine on 0.920v "800/850" why do i need to up the voltage in battery mode? Did you have any such problems? Also all my other games seem ok with 0.920v "800/850" will try out Crysis 2 again on battery mode.

Those are not really stills they are game's internal benchmarks and are valid dont you think they have min max and avg?

Hey Bill Nye I made a vid awhile back on my machine 15" i7 with 6750 for sc2. In utter darkness which is a good stress test outside of mp. I also over clock it later to 780/900. Ultra settings are various resolutions.

    http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?deskto...e.com/watch?v=UC3BBehrHmk&v=UC3BBehrHmk&gl=US

This was made before I started oc with ati tools. Check my other vids if u want to see how the Mbp performs with oc etc as well.

Yeah, I'm well aware of how fast a 6750m can be when OC'd. I have one, remember? I'm just having my doubts that it surpasses a 555m.

In a few benchmarks, maybe. Most likely.

Oh you were just asking for SC2 videos so I linked one..

Does it surpass the 555m? From what I've seen no, but it's so close that I don't think it really matters. It then becomes a fight vs other things, such as screen quality, portability, screen size, OSX vs Windows, cost, build quality etc etc.

My MBP's cpu was stuck at X8 when i was on battery no matter what i did. It worked fine on AC, this was the reason why my game performance went down on battery mode than compared to plug-in mode.

I had a notion about power overdraw from battery but it was not the case. After a bit of searching around uninstalled ThrottleStop and it was fixed. Sp reinstalled it disabled Turbo but again the same problem so have configured ThrottleStop to force x20 when on battery also disabled speed step but not C1E.

Result is full performance on battery not to mention my new OC tool "Trixx" does not give any BSOD's :) but i lost voltage control :(

I think my PowerPlay is messed up because Deus Ex 3 runs terrible on my 6750M. Can anyone confirm that it runs smooth on their rigs?

As much as it would pain me to do so, I might sell/trade it for a more gaming centric unit. Lately all I do on it is read (iPad) and game (burlier GPU).

I had a similar problem check that your CPU is not going to 800Mhz first of all. Use Trottlestop to force at least 2Ghz. Now run GPUz and use its sensor log to confirm what speed your GPU is running at.

If there is a powerplay problem it will show up and if it does use MSI Afterburner to put 6750m to the correct freq.

From memory: 900p, DX10, Shadows Medium, SSAO off, AA off, AF 4x, Post processing Medium.

I would guess 15-25 fps. Lots of stutter when accessing new areas (textures loading?).

    Will try this tonight.

Sounds pretty normal. Try disabling anisotropic filters.

I ended up trading it to a friend for an 11" MBA i5/4/128 and an XPS with 555. It was a little better (not much) and allowed me to complete DX, but I sold it right after. The thing was a tank.

To the OP. I would think this is an easy decision if you plan to leave your house or take your PC to work: get the MBP.

But gaming on the MBP requires some compromises.

Trade with an XPS 555m is kinda similar territory as compared to the MBP 6750m but hey you got a bonus MBA 11" in which you cant game much.

All in all with Windows 7 and OCed GPU under clocked CPU it works out pretty good overall. I am using trottlestop to manage the CPU and its wonderful i wanted to get ClockTweak but i dont have any Bitcoins and my laptop is not registering with any pool idk why :(

So i am using TRIXX its the next best thing but if anyone has 0.2btc or ClockTweak please do give me a PM...

Do you keep your cpu capped at 2ghz at all times? or do you use throttlestop switching profiles?
If you keep it at 2ghz at all times you can just use windows advanced power settings to cap it and save you needing to run throttlestop.

I tried advanced power settings but the settings get overwritten when on battery. So in effect while the MBP is on battery the 2Ghz mark is not reached instead it chugs along 800mhz happily in most situations like gaming, etc...

really? mine doesn't. Plus you should have seperate settings for battery and mains. Did you have it in powersaver instead of balanced?
I have mine set to 1.6ghz on battery and 2.2ghz on mains. Works great for me and means I can game for a couple of hours on battery with my gpu undervolted :)
