Even if it has the same specs as a white one?

Because Apple is evil and tries in every way it can to milk its users for money. I imagine they are trying to cash in on the totally ignorant and willing going pay twice as much because it looks cool and owning a mac is cool people.
They do that with the ipods too.. exact same ipods in special colors cost a lot more. -
Because black isn't a color...
-
Q: How do you call black in English? Non-color?
OK, to answer the original question: because Steve Jobs is ripping people off. You have to pay 1500$ for a piece of plastic with no dedicated video card and with average features. Instead you get it black and with MacOS X. -
If you look closely, you'll see that the black has a 160GB HD as standard, as opposed to 120GB on the white. But yeah, apart from that they're the same. Also, the black one finger prints like crazy.
-
Check out the Forum Rules, specifically Trolling. -
In real world the price difference between a 120 and 160 is not even 20$.
Xander, stop defending Jobs!
This only happens to MacBooks (and 15" MBP if you take the graphics card and the CPU into consideration). -
It's because Apple has to ship the white Macbook to their colouring factory in some developing country, where the <strike>slaves</strike> underpaid workers have to dye the laptop black.
Probably because Apple knows that only Apple/black dye fans will be willing to pay extra for it. -

Isn't this ... obvious? The black paint or panels costs $300 extra.
Disclaimer: I have a black Macbook. Yes, I realize I payed extra for the black color. No, there was no other choice if I wanted a portable black notebook (that wasn't a PC). No, I don't play games or need dedicated graphics. Yes I would have sacrificed the extra footprint if the MBP came in black. Yes the color and outside is that important. Yes If I had much more money I could have just bought a MBP and repainted it. Yes, I might just do that with the next upgrade. -
I HATE APPLE.
but the different color ipods are more expensive in stores -
Not to be a piss-ant, but why exactly do you post so much in the Apple forum Fade To Black? You seem to hate them so much, and don't seem to own one...
While the price difference in 120 and 160GB drives is only $23-34 (Depending on brand), figure in that they haven't changed prices in many months. All Apple prices are changed when new models are released (Or specs are upgraded). Last fall, the price difference in drives was far more.
What store are you going to? Was there a drug dealer you visited first? -
LOL!
Price difference for Black vs White with same specifications is US$125 from <noparse>Apple</noparse>. HD upgrade does cost US$75 though.
-
Modly, I don't own one, used MacBooks, but sometimes I just happen to have something to say. Is something wrong with me? Or with what I post? Is this forum restricted to Apple fanboys? And I don't want a MacBook, as it's nothing more that a piece of plastic with ****ty performance. A MacBook Pro is a different story though.
-
Who knows, maybe the Mighty Apple believes that black is a more valuable colour than white.
Take a look at the white MacBook specs:
13inch white:
2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
1GB memory
80GB hard drive
Combo drive
Ships: Within 24 hours
13inch white: (W/ superior hdd + cpu)
2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
1GB memory
120GB hard drive
Double-layer SuperDrive
Ships: Within 24 hours
Free Shipping
$1,299.00
13inch black: (W/ superior Hdd 120gb vs. 160gb)
2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
1GB memory
160GB hard drive1
Double-layer SuperDrive
Ships: Within 24 hours
Free Shipping
Then again, it doesnt match up. Just for 160gb, $200 more? Apple's gotta be kidding.
$1,499.00
Free Shipping
$1,099.00
Maybe

I think Steve Jobs likes the scientific explanation and charges you more for the absence of color. -
They do it because they know people will pay it. There's obviously a market for black laptops, and apparently people will purchase it at that price.
-
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know the scientific part. But is there a word for black & white? Wikipedia points to achromatic, but still...
"Do you want an achromatic black MacBook sir?"
"No, I'm fine with the achromatic white one."
Ryan21, right, I wonder how much Lenovo will charge for a white ThinkPad... -
I am not a troll thank you very much. I've even recommended macbooks to users on these very forums, so I would thank you to next time try not jumping to conclusions and bashing members when you really have absolutely no idea. I do not appreciate you turning this into a personal ordeal.
And many many past models of ipods have had extra colors at additional money. This pattern of making 'special' products idential except for few extra colors at much higher prices is nothing new to Apple. Even if the newest models of the ipods no longer reflect this, it doesn't make my statement any less true that they're trying to milk people for the color. If you think the cost difference merits the price you're dreaming. -
I've never seen a "colored" iPod more expensive than another.
-
I think you're just making **** up now.
And just FYI to all to settle this...lol : White is the presence of all colour, while black is the absence of colour. Any other colour you see in between is the material absorbing certain light frequencies while reflecting others(the ones you see). -
Btw, Fade To Black, I would not buy something that I consider a mistake of nature, regardless of the color. I may, however, buy the MBP later this year because I like it overall...
-
Yeah, the black MacBook is overpriced for the same spec. I guess one factor Apple could argue is that because its a different colour from the better selling low-end and middle-end MacBooks, it costs more in production as there's less volume. But yeah, unless you really want the colour, I wouldn't go for the black MacBook.
I want to remind everyone to calm down. As far as I remember, Apple's never charged more in iPods for colour, but it has been more exclusive on some things.
In the second generation iPod Nano, if you wanted the black Nano you had to get the 8 GB version. That doesn't mean they charged more without merit for it, since you got more storage space, but yes, it was exclusive of them to do so in the sense that black wasn't offered in other sizes. -

its black simple, to all the goth-mac lovers (not implying all mac users are goths, i myself am a mac user...and not goth btw) you pay another $400 otherwise it dosent match your outfit
-
Because troll masters like Fade to Blake are waiting for a file to copy from his Vista machine (with dedicated graphics) to an external drive and he was able to watch a movie, have dinner and still has time left to come to this forum and dazzle us with his brilliance? Hey the file is done....oh no sorry, says calculating again.
Because like the commercial says "Windows Live OneCare...$49, Vista Ultimate...$399.....Black Macbook....priceless".
Because Chuck Norris has a Black Macbook? -

Sometimes people pay for the black one just because. I bought the black one, because I had the choice between it and the low end MBP... so a lot of people would say "GO FOR THE MBP!", but realize that I don't like the aluminum, and I didn't want just the white one. The black looks amaazingly sleek to me, and so I chose it.
the end. -

To answer the OP's question, you pay a premium for a popular color. Many manufacturers do this with cars, clothing etc... Before you look at only Apple take a look around and you will see this is very typical. Just by the OP taking the time to post this it shows he has an interest in the black color. Companies know special colors will sell for more so they offer it. It's still up to the consumer to buy so you can't fault the company.
You can get the white Macbook with the same specs for less. -
-
it was an idle joke you have got touchy about? -
Relax, liam, mine was definitely not a serious post. If you are serious, a smilie was in order.
I like all white (I owned a white MB a while back). Correct, I no like all black Mac with nasty fingerprint smudges.
(Semi-serious comment)
I'm sorry if I upset you.Uh, oh . . .
. . . wrong smilie . . .

SGT Lindy, shut up mate. Better post something useful next time, otherwise you're the troll. I don't troll. Oh, and by the way, what other OS loses files when copying from one partition to another? Yes, it's the new MacOS X 10.5. SP1 ain't slow, so shut up.
drpoi, liam2051, again, do you have anything useful to say?
When someone replies to another posts and says something like ditto or this is so whatever...it makes you wonder if they really have something to say. Maybe, guys, you shouldn't make posts by replying to others and stop being fanboys.

DrPoi, the fanboy bored of nonsense critics about Macbook's performance. -
Yeah, it sucks big time

Alright, you guys blew it over the top. This thread is closed. Sorry guys, and next time please try not to get into an argument.
Why is a black macbook more expensive...
