Interesting article I found through slashdot.org

    http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20060809-7457.html

As I understand it, if I were to get a MacBook, the probablility of me having a problem with it is high... (close to 20-25%), at the same time Apple takes responsibility for most instances and tries to provide a solution
The question I have to ask meself and answer meself too is whether I would like to get a MacBook and risk the possibility of having to contact AppleCare to take care of any issues I have.
folks at the apple store here in NYC at 5th Av, were not really kind... they thought I was acting more of a smartass when I asked why the MacBook on display was running hot... I have no idea how good or bad Apple Care is.....

wow just noticed.. my 50th post.... woo hoo

i'd say not to get it... www.appleinsider.com is saying that apple is going to be moving most of their systems to core2duo (conroe and merom) asap, wait for a month or so and get merom in there at least before thinking about it... also what do you want to do on your laptop... are you sure a mb/mbp is right for you?

The macbook most likely won't make the change until after the MBP has gone through both Santa Rosa and Merom before they move the MB to Merom.

20-25% seems like a high number, based more on anecdotal evidence than anything else......... frankly though, the percentages don't matter. Whatever it is, there's always a possibility with any laptop that you'll get one with a problem.

I wouldn't worry too much about people at the Apple Store giving you a hard time (if it's a problem, ask to speak to a manager, and they'll take care of you). If you do have a problem and need them to replace or fix it, there really shouldn't be any problem in doing it (if you don't want to take it to the store, it can be fedexed back and forth, etc.).

Yeah, what disappoints me is how I hear of the great service of Apple directly all the time, but when it comes to Geniuses and Mac specialists at these Apple stores they all sound to come out as major jerks.

Its one thing to be a Mac user, but its another to be a snotty Mac user thinking your special or something because you use a more of a 'Boutique' brand.
