So I can't figure this one out...

My MBP is set to sleep automatically after 15 minutes, but it won't. The screen goes dim, and then goes black, but the system never goes to sleep. I can close the lid of the system and then it goes to sleep, but the automatic setting doesn't work. I've tried disabling Bluetooth etc and nothing seems to work. Am I missing something?

    Thanks all.

Make sure in Energy Saver you set "Put the computer to sleep when inactive for:" to be 15 minutes, because you might have only set the display to.

If you did, then that's a good question...I don't see why it doesn't go to Sleep if you set it to.

I'm sure it's correct. I even changed it to be "sleep after 1 minute" and it still doesn't work. :(

Try rebooting and see if it works then?

Tried that. No luck. Just won't go to sleep. Goes to sleep immediately if I close the lid.

    *sigh*

Probably a weird idea, but go into Screensaver mode and see if it changes anything. See if it will go to sleep then.

it could be a background application or process that is keeping it awake. some programs such as bittorrent keep computers awake.

Tried both, and there's nothing running out of the ordinary in the background. The only things I have installed are as follows:

    Microsoft Office 2004
    Final Cut Express HD 3.5
    Toast
    Skype
    VLC
    Flip4Mac
    Firefox
USB Overdrive (for Logitech mouse - tried uninstalling it to see - no change)

Haha ok that's funny. It was the Declunk application stopping the MBP from sleeping, but even without it running, the system won't sleep till about 3 minutes, even if it's set to sleep at 1 minute! How bizarre is that! Basically, after I disabled Declunk, I wanted to test my sleep mode and set it to 1 minute and when it didn't sleep immediately I figured something was wrong. I just had to wait a couple more minutes.

Still bizarre, but it works :D

Yay for MBP! Did I mention I love this darn thing? :D

Hey guys. The new MBP 2.4Ghz Penryn is having the same problem I used to have. Can't make it go to sleep automatically. Screen will turn off, and I can force it to sleep by closing it or clicking sleep, but it won't do it automatically. Any ideas? :( I even created a new test account with nothing installed, and it still won't sleep. Tried resetting PRAM and SMC and still no dice...

    Grrr! :( :(

Gah. Now it's working. Sometimes the little things on Macs are a little frustrating. Now all is well, it seems...

Was Spotlight doing one of it's automatic background reindexings? I think that Spotlight is supposed to stop itself and not interfere with sleeping but I can imagine it getting confused.

I don't believe it would be interfering...anyway, you can test the Sleeping by pressing the Power button and selecting Sleep in the window that pops up. See if it sleeps immediately that way.
